“The Boondock Saints”
Movies are one of the many things that have entertained America and every other country in the world since the late 1800’s. Movies have also grown and changed over the years, coming from silent movies to movies with “Dolby Digital” sound and from black and white to movies with High Definition color. Every movie that comes out now days is always criticized by someone on rather or not it’s a good movie or a bad movie. So, today I am the critic and the movie that is being critiqued is “The Boondock Saints”. While this movie might get bad criticism from someone else, all in all I believe this movie is well put together. So, the question is, what is it that makes a good movie or bad movie? Overall “The Boondock Saints” has a well put together easy to follow storyline, the actors also did a great job making the movie interesting, and the mixture of violence and comedy just made it even better.

Vigilantism is something that is needed in certain parts of the world. Vigilantes are someone one basically takes the law into their own hands to try and do well for the community; which is something that portrayed in this movie. The plot of this movie takes place in Boston and is based on two Irish brothers Connor and Murphy MacManus. They believed that it is God’s will that they rid the world of evil and injustice. So, they took the law into own hands and started to kill gang members and mob bosses in the city of Boston. Based on how the movie begins you wouldn’t think the storyline was going to turn out the way that it does. That’s only because the movie begins with the two brothers hitting each other with meat at their job at the meat factory. But, the real action begins when the twins are at their favorite bar hanging out with their friends and the owner tells them the Russian are making him shut down his bar. After that the Russians come in and demand that he shut down the bar that instance but the MacManus brothers tried to reason with them. Then, right before any action begins the scene changes to a crime scene with the Russians lying in the alley dead. Then FBI Agent Smecker steps into the scene and using his knowledge of crime scene investigations, begins to slightly describe his theory on what happen to the two dead Russians in the alley.

Later, the two brothers turn themselves in to the police and Smecker questions them. They then describe to him what happen in the bar the night before with the Russians. They told him about the bar and then told him how the dead Russians came to be in the alley. This is pretty much how the whole movie goes on but it is not hard to keep up with the story nor is it hard to get confused. Right before every fight or shoot out the scene cuts to Detective Smecker trying to figure out what happen. Then, once he has pretty much figured it out it cuts back to original scene then it shows what actually happened. Eventually, the Russian mob begins to try and kill the brothers but they seemed to get to them before they can make their move, this eventually led to them killing the mob boss. The crazy thing about the story is the public doesn’t have a problem with them killing all of these bad guys because they see it as a good thing. Detective Smecker is also convinced that this is a good thing, so he later begins to side with the brothers. The storyline is pretty well put together because it is easy to keep up with even with it all of the twists and turns and constant scene changes you are always curious as to what is going to happen next.

Just because a movie has well known actors in it doesn’t mean the movie is going to be entertaining. Two of the three main characters of this movie (Sean Patrick Flanery and Norman Reedus) are not well-known. On the other hand, the third main character Willem Defoe has had his fair share of Hollywood experience. Flanery and Reedus did a great job of portraying the two Irish brothers; even though they both are American born the Irish accents that they spoke with were amazing. If you actually take the time to watch the movie you will see that they did a great good at acting out the roles of their characters. They had good body language and the way they reacted to things in the movie just made it seem even more realistic. From the way they reacted to the other actors in the movie, all the way down to their facial expressions made their acting skills stand out. I do not know if these two actors usually play this type of roles in movies, but if they don’t then they did a good at stepping out of their normal character and playing someone like
