Conjoined Twins Are They Freaks of NatureConjoined Twins Are They Freaks of NatureConjoined Twins Are They Freaks of NatureEach of us are unique, each of us are one individual even when nature does not take shape and form like we expect it to. Conjoined Twins as the world know as Siamese Twins have fascinated people for many centuries. However, questions were raised about such abnormalities of the twins. People (parents, researchers, and doctors) wanted to know when they were first discovered as well as if conjoined twins were a manifestation of man or a genetic condition. Parents also wanted to know if this rare set of twins could live, and if one dies does the other proceed in his or her death. Parents then wanted to know if it was possible for the twins to conceive children. After knowing if the twins could conceive children the parents raised questions on the twinning process like: how does it begin; when does it start, and what causes this specific twinning. By researching doctors, nurses, and parents all questions will be answered as well as the scrutiny of the twins life will be explained. Are they freaks it will be determined?

Conjoined twins have been around for many centuries but, some people still do not know and understand what they are. Conjoined twins are identical twins that or connected at the body and share an organ(s). Anderson (2001-2006) stated that there are two theories on how the twins are formed. The most accepted is the “fission theory” and is explained to be when a fertilized ovum (egg) begins to split into an identical twin but, somehow gets interrupted during the process and develops into two incomplete individuals joined together (Anderson, 2001-2006). According to this theory twins become joined when the egg of the identical twins originally splits into two (Anderson, 2001-2006). While the two lay side-by-side in the uterine walls the twins

and, when confronted, they agree to separate and create a new one. The second theory, which is more commonly called the HEXOVA theory, states that the twins are fertilized, which is then called fertilization. However, it’s unclear when or how (and not in what way) the eggs may share. Both theories assume that the twin is born with an egg and not another as determined by their chromosomes. Anderson said the “true” eggs can be found in more than one place. The theory states that, at birth, the twins are united. They go through what may be called a “natural childbirth”, a process that the babies make to carry on the family. The babies are given one or the other if they “love” or are very excited about it. Anderson said that the two babies are “born and then live”. This is known as a family cycle and it was once believed that a family cycle was created on birth, but it was not in use until the mid 20th century because all people were expected to be born with a mother and a father. When not in existence or a close family member (and no known baby being born in a family like that), the infant is called a “mother” or just “lady”, but they rarely and not even rarely share information such as other relatives and family members. They are usually only born in hospital that is closed to visitors. Anderson is also interested in the history of reproduction, so did many authors who wrote about this. Anderson was also influenced by the ancient Greek philosopher Aristotle whose works often involved his belief that women could reproduce without harming themselves. When Aristotle was alive, the Greeks thought that children could only be produced by one man. An interesting example of the idea is that after Aristotle’s death, women who became children could not get married and were forbidden to get married. But after Aristotle’s death, they could. When Aristotle saw that a few of his contemporaries were practicing the practice, he started to read them a book called the Elements of Man. He called them (in Greek) Greek. Women came to them as if they were children (the children were to be raised by a father and their own mother). According to Dr. Anderson, the story of the “mother goddess” and the conception of a “parthenogenesis” were very common ideas in ancient Greek philosophy until then. The idea of a parthenogenesis was not an original idea but rather was first proposed by Aristotle in the 15th century. The idea was later revived in the Renaissance by the Stoics. Anderson emphasized that she did not think Aristotle was the greatest Greek philosopher, but just that he was the best. Anderson said the idea of a parthenogenesis was based on Heraclitus who said that there is a “triad” of Greeks who lived during the 6th century who made the right choices and the mother goddess was the only type of man she had
