Short Essay Catcher In The Rye
In the novel of The Catcher In The Rye, Solinger tells us how he views the American Dream. It all starts off with Holden, the main character, and how he does not want to talk about how his childhood was a joke and how his parents were pretty much losers and his brother is in Hollywood and he does not like movies. The American Dream is supposed to be you going from rags to riches. In this novel Holden goes the opposite way, he had money, he went to a nice school, but then he messed up and got kicked out. While he was out he spent his money on cabs and alcohol. Solinger i think is trying to say that the American Dream is not what it seems. It is harder to achieve then you would think. And you need to be committed and willing to go through bad times to get to the good times.
Authors like Arthor Miller, his thoughts of the American Dream is something we all want and we will be able to achieve but not through money, but through love and forgiveness and family. Other authors like Laurie Halse Anderson, she believes that the american dream is very bold, and
