Tiffany PennEnglish 015Professor Sallie Anglin14 September 2015“Masks”        Lucy Grealy born in Dublin, Ireland moved to New York when she was four. At the age of nine, she was diagnosed with Ewing’s sarcoma, a lethal form of cancer. She lost nearly half of her jaw to the disease. Lucy went through many operations to try and fix her face. Lucy felt she was ugly because of the deformity in her face. Beauty is not everything.        Character is impacted by numerous pieces; with some more clear then others. Sexual orientation and ethnicity are the most evident attributes to perceive, which drives other contributing elements to be disregarded, for instance, society. Society assumes an expansive part in every individuals character but since it cant be seen when simply taking a gander at an individual it goes unnoticed. Society is the blend of qualities, convictions, and practices of a specific gathering. The way of life every individual lives in demonstrates to him or her best practices to dress, talk, act, adequate conduct, and gives a rule of what is viewed as worthy and typical. As a kid experiences childhood in a specific society they retain the convictions, and practices, then start to utilize them in regular exercises.        Identity is not shaped by culture; Many different things such as personal choices, relationships, experiences, etc shape identity. … Everybody’s path is unique. Who we are is a long lasting undertaking, for we build another self with each choice we make.
