Nowadays, same – sex marriage is one of the most popular issues discussed in the society . Recently US president Obama spoke out in support of same – sex marriage . However , several US states have prohibited such marriage . Is the society really need to be legalization of same – sex marriage ? What are the pros and cons of legalization of same – sex marriage ? To be more clearly defined ,Same – sex marriage is marriage between two persons of the same biological , sex or gender identity .Same sex- marriage have been discussed over a lot of years . The mainly reason for the supporting side are to protect human right and the meaning of marriage .
From the point of human rights , someone think that human right is a basic right in society , Gay and Lesbian are one of us in the society ,they definitely can enjoy the human rights. Human rights are inalienable fundamental rights to which a person is inherently entitled simple because he or she is a human being , Human rights are thus conceived as universal and egalitarian , which means human rights are applicate everywhere and apply to everyone . So homosexual people should have a choice to choose their partner . Although some may argue that we are not stopping them to be a gay even the same – sex marriage is not be legalized . However , if same – sex marriage is illegal , the homosexual couple cannot enjoy the tax law and being a couple in the eyes of society . We are actually discriminate them if there is no law to protect homosexual couples since they cannot get the same benefits with us .
The meaning of marriage is the other concern—marriage is the choice of individuals . In the past , marriage have the function of building the relationship between one family to another . Marriage is not just concern individuals but also family . However , marriage have the completely different meaning in this modern times . It is the marriage between individuals. There should be nothing to restrict someone to decide their lives , to share their lives with others . If same – sex marriage is not recognized by the law , by the government , by the society , it is violate to the meaning of marriage .
However ,Many people may worry that once the government make the same – sex marriage be legalized , it may encourage people to have same – sex marriage . Although same -sex marriage is mostly accepted by the public . Some people like catholic and tradition al people , they strongly oppose same – sex marriage , they think homosexuality is distort the moral value . If government strictly enforce the law without the consensus of the society , it is possible to have dispute between people with opposite thinking , which break the harmony of the society .
Moreover, the children of same – sex couple is another problem . If same – sex marriage is legalized , this means homosexual couple have the right to own their children . They can artificial impregnation .
