Second-hand smoke is becoming a widely discussed and contraversial topic.In the year of 2000, medical researchers discovered a development of certian types of cancers linked to second-hand smoke. Though, certain public places provided designated smoking sections, some people felt that their health was still at risk and an uproar erupted. Non-smokers were pushing for action and in some states they succeeded, for example, in southern California outside smoking was banned, creating a non-smoking city.
According to MedicineNet.com, second-hand smoke is defined as enviornmentaltobacco smoke that is inhaled involuntarily or passively by someone who is not smoking. Second-hand smoke can come from two different sources; smoke that is produced by a burning tobacco product, as well as smoke that is exhaled by someone smoking tobacco. Non-smokers who are exsposed to second-hand smoke have increased risk for adverse health effects, as well as a chance at disease and premature death.
Lets say a small, young girl is raised in a smoking enviornment. Her parents continuously smoke in her presence and she continuously inhales it. Day after day, year after year she is exposed to second-hand smoke and her health is decreased with each passing day. She is taken to the doctors after many strange symptoms and sickness, only to find out she is being diagnosed with lung cancer from cigarette smoke. Even though she hasnt had a cigarette in her life, the extensive exposure to her parents second-hand smoke has caused her major health issues.
Some smokers dont mind the extra precausions some states have issued, while others argue that they are over the top. Some may argue that America is a free country and that they should be able to smoke when they would like to. On the other hand, the same could be said for the non-smokers, they should be able to go out to public places without having to be exsposed to second-hand smoke that could evenually
