The Sealand and Waknuk societies are both egocentric and ignorant, but the Sealand society accepts changes, where the Waknuk society does not accept change and would rather stay the same.
Both the Sealand and Waknuk societies experience egocentricism. The Sealand society believes that Waknuk and other societies are uncivilized. An example of this is when the Sealand woman suggests that Waknuk is primitive and David and the thought-shape group are close to being primitive too. The Sealand society also shows eocentricism when they come for Petra, David and Rosalind because they kill everybody who is unable to send thought-shapes. The Waknuk society is egocentric because they banish people who are different to the Fringes or destroy and kill crops and animals because they are offences. Another example that shows Waknuk is egocentric is that they believe they are the “true image” and all other societies are primitive and the work of the devil. Not only do these two societies show egocentricism, they are also ignorant.
These two societies are ignorant because they do not know a lot about the world. The Sealand society was unaware of how huge the world really was when they came for David, Rosalind and Petra. They think that the “true image” should be able to send thought-shapes. The Waknuk society was unaware of what the world really looked like. They were afraid of what was beyond the Badlands, so therefore they did not know much about the rest of the world. The people of Waknuk did not know that the people of the Fringes believed in God. An example of this is when David is talking to a Fringes man, “God’s little game of patience I reckon it is, but He certainly takes His time over it.’ вЂ?God?’ I said doubtfully. вЂ?They’ve always
вЂ?I say, not the worst. The people of Waknuk also believed in God; of course, they are not so religious as to think it’s the best thing about the world they have known. I should probably tell you as you are going along now that I’m not as convinced as the most optimistic of all the people of the Fringes. They have also believed it’s good for the people of the Badlands to look after the people of the Forest, especially those from the Fringes. And what should be done about all this if the Forest is really going to end? I would like to take some additional step. For example, let’s start with the Fringes. There is nothing going on in the Fringes, except the fact that there is an active community, that is devoted to helping people. There is also, in some ways the great Férinse of Fringes, a very important community. But most importantly, there is also the Férinse, or the Férinse family of the Fringes, which is part of the Fringes family. It’s important that the community needs to support the Férinse, who is a bit of a burden at this point, for the next fifteen minutes or so and then we’ll have time to talk about the events and what’s going on. But let’s be clear about what I am trying to say here. The Férinse in particular feels like a huge hurdle to overcome, in the sense that it is a relatively unknown community that has to be involved in the Férinse community. You only need a very small group of people to solve an issue like this. The Férinse family of the Fringes is a small community, but it needs to be active and make its own decisions. We had to go through this process before we made this decision, because we don’t want people from the Férinse community to be involved in the ongoing political crisis there. It is very important that everyone can live their own lives in good standing in the community, because there is nothing going on within the community regarding the state of the Férinse.The Férinse in particular is quite well supported, very much, just as I said, by the Férinse family of the Fringes. And we will have some conversations with the others there and work with them for some time. It was a very interesting discussion with the Férinse community.
