Cyber bullying is an issue that should be tackled by the school staff and administrators instead of the community. According to Source A (Kids) the definition of cyberbullying is as follows: “when a child , preteen or teen is tormented, threatened, harassed, humiliated, embarrassed or otherwise targeted by another child, preteen or teen using the Internet, interactive and digital technologies or mobile phones.”

Currently, educators don’t have the ability to punish students who are guilty of cyberbullying. While schools can help get conversations started between parents and students, they can’t force students to take down content that may be offensive or harmful to another student. Basically, they can act as moderators, but their hands are tied when it comes to taking action.

Although the event did not occur in school, the school is responsible for what may happen after the event in school. It may affect a child’s learning ability, social life, and how they participate in class. All of these happen in school. Other authorities should be contacted and involved but the school should not be completely disregarded and not involved. As stated in Source F (HSU) “cyber bullying leads to significant emotional distress of young people.” This article also claims that “It’s just going to keep happening and people are going to get home.”

Schools not only teach us English, Math, Science, and History, but it also teaches us life lessons and helps us grow as people. Ever since we have been in kindergarten, the school and its teachers have taught us right from wrong and cyberbullying is one of those wrong things that we should’ve been taught. It is never spoken about to classes until an actual cyber bullying event happens, but I believe that it should be talked about before there is a problem.

On top of the idea of school helping us grow as people, it is a teenager’s largest social setting and students need to learn how to interact with each other in a positive way. Those everyday interactions between students are regulated by the school and its staff members. What happens at home depends on those interactions in school.

Interactions in school may also depend on the home environment though. The way a student is brought up by their family could affect the way they act in public, but the schools have chance to correct the family’s mistakes and make the child a better person. I see school as a second home, not in the warm welcoming way that you would call a friend’s house home, but in the way that it is where kids spend most of their time.

Students create connections with the teachers and the teachers are there to support and guide the students just like a parent would do at home. Some students even spend more time of their day at school then they do with their real families at home. Schools are a main part of a student’s life
