The story happened on the eve of the American Civil War. Scarlett*OHara, a young charming girl living in southern parts of United States, was schooled by southern traditional culture since her childhood. However, the gene of wild rebellion was actually flowing in her blood. With the spread of the war and the deterioration of living conditions, Scarletts character of rebellion got more and more well-rounded and vivid. In a series of setbacks, she changed herself and her own destiny, and even her whole familys. The most attraction of this novel is the heroines characters and her love story. Scarletts affection is not the kind of being fullof poetry and romance but of realistic and utilitarian. To attain her purpose, Scarlett recklessly exerted contemptible cunning tricks. Well then why is her love story so absorbing? The reason is simple. Because it is unfeigned; it is an entirely possible real condition in the scenarios painted in this novel. Real things may not be lofty but they are closer to our life; therefore, they are more favored by readers.

Scarlett is a selfish and impassive woman. She counted on her beauty and flirted with every men. She used to be infatuated with Ashley. Actually her fascination with Ashley was just like her obduracy in a beautiful dress. When she finally found that the dress began to go into holes, Scarlett abandoned Ashley without mercy, for she thought that he was weak and useless. She had an inflated opinion that Ashley loved her, so she always looked down on Melanie(Ashleys wife,Scarletts best friend).

Meanwhile, We have to admit that Scarlett is a adamant woman. When the south had been reduced to a hell, she decisively gave up her illusion of the past happy life and came out from her addiction to past carefree time. Scarlett bravely created her own bright future with her own hands. She determined to overcome all difficulties and dealt with things what she never imagine before. She made a prompt decision to protect her Farm Tara; she dared to immolate herself and even became Rhetts mistress.

Making a general observation on this novel, I think that Scarlett deserves our sympathy and forgiveness. She had to face wars, losings and depredations when she was only a little girl. She married Charles for revenge; she married Frank for Farm Tara. She lived a cragged life for most of her life. Eventually the death of Melanie and the leave of Rhett undoubtedly was a terrible blow to her and, of course, a severe punishment on her. “Tomorrow is another day” Maybe, for Scarlett, such a saying was the only thing that could continue to support her to be alive.
