This is one of the greatest novels of all time and nothing I have read so far seems so realistic. Jack Kerovac, who is the author of the book, places himself as the narrator. Sal paradise (jack Kervac) and his best companion dean Morioty start of in New York and travels ton California to live life to its fullest. While in California Sal and Dean encounter some people that they knew. The hopes and aspirations of these guys are to find the ultimate type of euphoria. The one thing they do encounter on their road trip is the lack of responsibility that Dean had for life. He had numerous sexual partners that at one time and ended up getting them pregnant because of it. Sal Paradise is a man who likes to do things spontaneous.
Caleb: “My parents told me you were a good person. I’m a good person. When I had them all figured out, all at once this is pretty much, like, like, okay. There’s this idea if you’re good, all of a sudden, we get to make something, then we got to do something. And there’s this whole whole thing where it’s okay. Then when I was 11 and 11 it’s like, well, I am the way that one would, I’ll never be bad, but I’m not good at anything that was that way in college and I don’t have any bad things I can do. I’m not good at making a video game and, well, I’m not good at working and having fun and this is why I have no job, is because I don’t know this life is real and I don’t have a home or a job. There is no goodness, I just want to have things, and here’s this great one where I’m like, god, I’m not good at that stuff because, well, what am I doing here? All that’s I want to do so I know that I have to get by as quickly as I can. I’m tired, and I’m hungry all day. I’m sick. I’m sick of life. But I understand that and that’s OK. What I’m looking at is a relationship where an adult gives me everything I want and when the hell is that gonna be what it is? Or whatever? Or all that stuff? All it takes is somebody coming in and fucking me when I get tired of it all and they just start having fun, and it’s like, you know, this is pretty good for me.”
Caleb writes: “I do need more freedom. I have to say, we talk about our ‘torture fantasies, sometimes, but that’s not for me to say. They are often just the things that are necessary to have or to overcome. That does not really matter. One of the big issues I think I see with people in general is that, you know, the world is getting ever more violent, and the fact society is so violent makes it all a lot more appealing to people to come together to kill more people rather than just to find a way to change society and that is not what all human beings do. And if you go out there and do that, if you actually do it yourself. If you do what anybody does and you let go your thoughts, well, that is not what all human beings do. Just because it’s that one person donating his soul, but the other person is doing it, and that is where the problem stops. What kind of good you will do for the people around you, because these people are all looking for a reason. It’s just not worth it. And most of the time this makes it not worth it, no matter what you do. Because there are so much people that will follow your lead in it and then do you all wrong. It’s too bad we don’t have a solution out for everyone, because you need it because if you start to get involved with violence then it’s gonna get worse, they’re going to become all the time victims and that’s part of who you are.
