Remembering Ronald Reagan Interview
Ronald Reagan is thought of to be one of the greatest presidents of our lifetime. He had a kind, witty personality that won over people’s hearts and made decisions during his presidency that would better our world. As I joined the Navy and did a deployment on the aircraft carrier the USS Ronald Reagan, I realized that I knew very little about President Reagan. I began to research and decided to call and interview my father Donald Fox on the former President; knowing that Reagan is one of my father’s biggest role models of his life.

I first asked my father what he thought of the Economic policies Reagan went about. My Father responded, “I believe they were to encourage the American Entrepreneur spirit. He said the government was not the answer; it was the problem by lowering taxes and reducing some of the loop holes that the upper income level people used to get out of paying taxes at all sometimes, investments in new businesses blossomed. Reagan triggered the largest expansion in economic growth in decades”. I asked if he thought the economy was getting so much better why we were falling into deeper debt. He replies “I remember the first time the debt hit one trillion dollars. That was during Reagan. I just wish the news would talk more about the debt now being 16 or 17 trillion, Reagans plan worked. The government pulled a lot more money in with economic growth. Its that the congress wouldnt cut spending”. I always believed in spending money to gain money and I agree with my father that was what Reagan did. Supply side economics he responded “Is that the same as “trickledown economics”? Reagan thought if you made it easier for the rich to reinvest their money in business, than everyone down the line would benefit, from waiters to cab drivers to carpenters and bakers. The rising tide lifts all boats”.

My family has always been very supportive of the military although we did not have recent relatives that served. Until my brother and I joined the service and now my family shows their respect even more now that they know the feeling of saying goodbye to a close loved one while they leave for deployment. So when I asked my father about what he thought on Reagan’s military spending he became a little choked up and said “It was a great investment under Reagan we developed such fantastically high tech stuff that the Soviet Union collapsed trying to keep up. The Star Wars plan was brilliant. After developing stealth technology and satellite guided missiles and spy satellites the Russians truly believed we would have the capability to shoot down anything they launched at us. Reagan made it a lot more attractive for recruits to join the services and stay and for that I am grateful the military kept you and your brother safe. With the Hostages coming home, all I got to say is the Iranians were afraid of that big crazy
