The Roman Emperor Tiberius Claudius Caesar Augustus Germanicus was born in 10 BC near present day Lyon, France. His parents were Nero Claudius Drusus and Antonia Minor, brother of Germanicus, and his grandfather was Emperor Augustus. He was looked down by his family for having a minor physical deformity. Claudius health had always been a delicate matter and he was also known to have written memoirs. Emperor Claudius was also regarded as a scholar, historian, and a writer. He came into power in 41 AD, after his nephew, Emperor Gaius Caligula, was assassinated. Before he came into power, he was married four times and had three children. Under Emperor Claudius, civil administration was improved, there was an increase control over treasuries and provinces and he also created a new style of cabinet. Claudius was also known for finishing the Claudian Aqueduct. Another of his accomplishments included carrying out public works of importance.

Claudius was Emperor from 41 AD – 54 AD; his reign lasted about 13 years. He became Emperor at the age of 51. Many believed that he was inadequate to be a ruler, but during his reign he was able to accomplish many things and was able to expand his already grand empire. In the beginning since he was much older when he became Emperor for the first time the Senate was very judgmental of him. He eventually proved his worth. He extended Roman rule by adding Mauretania and Thrace to the Roman Empire. As mentioned before Claudius contributed by finishing the Claudian Aqueduct which was started by Emperor Gaius Caligula. He also went on to build a second aqueduct, both aqueducts improved Romes water supply greatly. Claudius was unfortunately poisoned by his fourth wife, Agrippina, mother of Nero. Nero was Agrippinas biological son and eventually became Claudius adoptive son before his death. Nero would become the next Emperor of Rome. Claudius left behind a good legacy for the short amount of time of his reign.
