The act of engaging in sexual intercourse for money is known as prostitution. In most parts of America and many other countries, prostitution is still considered an illegal act, but there are no solid reasons as to why. To force limitations on other people’s source of income in an attempt to validate self beliefs is more immoral than two people mutually deciding to pay and receive money for sex. If prostitution was legal, government can regulate issues such as sexual transmitted disease, rape, violence and other crimes targeted towards sex workers and their clients. Why not legalize a transaction that maximizes pleasure and help minimize the crimes?

Prostitution is the “oldest profession” and as long as there are men in this world, it will never cease to exist. Morals and ethics are the biggest opposition to the industry. Selling the human body, created by God, is considered wrong in a moral citizen’s eyes. People question the conditions and circumstances of how a woman become apart of a torturous industry, thus indicating the profession is never chosen but forced. Others simply are insulted by the idea that women are selling what is considered sacred to them, the intimate act of sex. As Roger Scruton states in his article, “The prostitute used to be seen as the enemy of respectable women. She threatened the bargaining power of her sex, by offering cheaply what others were trying to offer at the highest possible price, namely marriage.”

The time of marriage has come and gone. The American society has changed to a culture where everything can be bought; the only negotiation is price. Scruton writes, “in a culture in which girls are encouraged to be as promiscuous as boys, it is hard to insist on an absolute distinction between the upright and the fallen woman.” Sexual liberation is undeniable. We live in a society where sex is objectified so we aren’t we able to purchase it?

For demonstration purposes, let’s assume for a moment that prostitution was legal and the human body can be purchased. What would be the first question of a man who is seeking sex services? He is probably going to wonder where to find it. One of the biggest concerns about prostitution is the environment in which it occurs. It is not safe for prostitutes or any woman to wander the streets late at night. As an alternate of standing on a corner flaunting their goods, why not have such buildings as brothels and hotels where services can be safely conducted?

America already has strip clubs, which is selling the body for viewing pleasure, so why not have buildings where you can buy sex? In this manner, the prostitutes would not have to worry about getting improper behavior from men. Also, the general public can benefit from keeping these activities out of their own neighborhoods and away from their children. If there was no safe zones for sex workers, there are terrible amount of things that could occur.

In fact, sex workers attract violent men, psychopaths and criminals. Is it fair for a prostitute to shy away from the law in fear of incriminating herself? The answer is no. Perhaps a man is robbed while in the act of picking up a prostitute, is there anything he can do without giving himself away as part of a criminal act? It is apparent that they should be able to report themselves as victims of a crime. As the old saying goes, “two wrongs don’t make a right.” If prostitution was legal, there would be laws that would help protect both clients and sex workers.

What comes after knowing where to do business? Well, it’s who you do business with. The first thing a client is going to wonder about is the health condition of the sex worker he chooses to engage with. The government must regulate all prostitutes by giving them mandatory or routine check ups. One of the biggest crimes society has been committing is ignoring the spread of sexually transmitted diseases. Healthcare should be provided to those who are most likely at risk to spread disease. With these solutions, clients are welcomed to ask for documentations that clearly state the sex worker’s health status. This will not only reduce the spread of STDS,
