Survivor Type by Stephen King
Richard Pine from the story, ‘Survivor Type’ by Stephen King shows many tendencies of a psychopath, and most likely is one. But the question presents itself, is he a psychopath or a sociopath? The answer is both, as Richard is most likely born a psychopath, (as there no proof stating he is a psychopath), but his time on the island has turned him into a sociopath as well.

Someone may argue as well that Richard shows many sociopathic tendencies and this is because he has become sociopathic on the island. Early into Richard’s time on the island he starts to become seemingly nervous and extremely volatile and prone to bursts of rage, mainly from his hunger. For example after desperate pursuit of a seagull, his failure resulted in him “shaking with exhaustion, racked with pain, weeping and screaming, cursing the gull.” (16), which is one of Richard’s many outbursts of rg=age. Near the end of the story Richard’s writings are barely readable, and he looks like “nothing but a skin-covered skull
Nothing left below the groin. Just a freak” (20, and this would be a disturbing sight, and someone might see Richard as ‘disturbed’, which is another key trait to sociopathy. Finally
