As CHANGING NATURE OF WARFARE is the topic of this article, I will spend some time to explain this. To make it simple, NATURE of warfare relate to the factors which affect or make up a war.

2. Tech/weapon
3. Public opinion/ morale

5. Alliance
6. Leadership
7. Resources

For example: We apply strategy in war.
We employ tactics in battle.
Battles make up a War.
Gun=炮
Rifle+musket=鎗
Revolutionary France:
As everybody knows, the revolutionary French protected the fruit of the revolution by repelling the Allies. Actually, the most important factor of their success is their new organisation and tactic of French army.

At that time, army engage one another in order of lines but French advanced in column. It will highly reduce the casualty when the army was under attack by musket. However, column is vulnerable to artillery fireÐÐ…..another new French invention on battlefield is Skirmisher. Skirmisher is some how similar to sniper. They took cover and kill enemy officers to cause havoc in enemy lines then the main army charge into the opponent.

Info of column: 50-80 columns across, 9-12 men deep
Also, the French created a new organisation known as DIVISION. Each division consisted of about 12000men. It combined infantry, cavalry and artillery into a single unit. This formation improves the speed or flexibility of movement because division move in queue but not in mass armyÐ…. (Chinese did that long time agoÐ…..English student should study Chinese
