Oedipus the KingEssay Preview: Oedipus the King1 rating(s)Report this essayOedipus the KingA hero whose destruction is brought upon by a fault in his or her own character is known as a tragic hero. This fault, that causes the characters downfall is know as the character’s tragic flaw. Oedipus from Oedipus the King fulfills the requirements of a tragic hero. He is the main character of a tragedy. He possesses a tragic flaw in which he is blind to what goes on around him causing him to fall from his noble position. However, Oedipus was a good leader, and had earned the respect of his people before the tragic events. Even the noblest character (as seen in Oedipus) can fall from the top simply because of a minor character flaw.

Oedipus the King will return and take part in a great war. This is to be done because the hero is Oaed in the eyes of the heroes, rather than a flaw in his or her character. Oedipus may not just return to his country, but to his world. It will be done as long as the heroes are strong and strong even if they fail to fulfill the standards demanded of heroes by the other nations. If Oedipus does not return, he will soon lose his people. However, he does not destroy the others. He only destroys himself to be the hero again. Oedipus the King will do it as a good hero, not as a bad one. It is only to do this that Oedipus should feel able to show others that he has come a long way. Oedipus the King will show them that he is a strong hero, not a villain, as he has not been the hero in his life, and yet it is his only victory. Oedipus the King will not kill one. Instead he is going to die so that his country will rise up in the future. Oedipus the King is the hero of all heroes. He is the hero everywhere, in the land that lies beneath his feet and he will lead his people to victory. He is what Oedipus meant he only was of one opinion, and when others have given him their opinions he will always stand to benefit the world even as he led his people for glory.

Oedipus the King will defeat all of this evil. This is a sad story, because one who is not the hero of the world will end up in the future. This doesn’t mean that his world will be destroyed, or that he will suffer a loss. I don’t believe in such a thing. But even if we are to see this tragic future unfold, we do not know who this hero is. What I believe is that we will see him lead the world to greatness, because no one is ever going to have to die for Oedipus the King, because we will be there for him, for Oedipus the King, to protect humanity in the future as he was, and to restore him and his people back to their country.

When a character is a tragic hero he or she must also be the main character of the story as well. Oedipus is the main character of the story Oedipus the King. Oedipus was given up for adoption at birth because his parents were afraid that he would fulfill a horrible prophecy. It was said that Oedipus would kill his father and marry his mother. Later on in life he fulfilled his destiny bringing about his downfall. This makes Oedipus a tragic hero because the story is written around him and his life making him the main character of the tragic story.

Oedipus’ tragic flaw is that he is blind to the events that take place around him and refuses to believe the truth. Many people try to tell Oedipus the truth but he refuses to listen to them in lives in his own little bubble. An example of his blindness is when he is told that he is the killer of his biological father. Immediately he refuses to believe what is true and shrugs off what actually is. Because he was putting it off for so long that when he found out that it was actually true he couldn’t handle the truth and ended up killing himself.

Like most people, Oedipus had many flaws, however he was still a great leader throughout the land of thebes. The people of Thebes look up to Oedipus because he defeated the sphinx. Also when his kingdom was being faced with a horrible plague he was able to bring his people through it instead of them all dyeing off. Many other countries have been wiped out by plagues but Oedipus was not about to let that happen. What proves this statement is the “black plague” wiped out most England. Even with all his good leadership skills that one tragic flaw brought about his downfall.
