It is easy to say that a vast majority of the United States has been put into the system one way or another whether it be from as minor as a traffic satiation or as serious as murder you must face a consequence which can vary from paying a summons or whichever the judge decides your fate is in their hands.
When do we come to the point that enough is enough? Ours jails are over populated we are running out of money and crime is not ever going to stop. Criminals will stay criminals and matters will only get worst so what do we do with these people? How do we “fix” these people? Is there any fixing to be done?
There are many opportunities to endorse rehabilitation for these criminals so we do not have to sentence them to jail but we are at the point where nothing is working these people are recidivists and spending every dime that the tax payer earns. I found that the best substitutes for jail and the less costly are parole, probation and electronic monitoring.
Parole is a supervised release of a prisoner before they have completed their entire sentence. When on parole the parolee has to comply with the rules set forward for them or they will end up going back to jail for violating their parole. Some of the rules they have to follow include following the law, getting a job, and checking in with their parole officer and of course staying drug & alcohol free not excluding that they cannot be associated with known felons are be surrounded in the atmosphere in which are included.
Parole doesnt mean that the offenders are completely free they are still supervised by the parole officer. Parole is based on the belief that a controlled, supervised release from prison back into society. Not only helps the inmate but also makes a safer society. When deciding whether or not to release an inmate on parole the most important factor is the protection of society. Just because the inmate has been good and has followed all the rules doesnt mean that they are going to get parole. This method is efficient because often the parolee has to pay out of pocket for the parole service
Another element that is more likely used is probation mostly for juveniles a study shows that most minor offenders are incarcerated for the following.
