“Josie and the Pussycats” is a satire based on the music industry and a friendship between three girls. The four key concepts represented in this media text are: media have codes and conventions, construct reality, contain ideologies and values and have commercial implications. It is a little tough to analyze the four concepts due to the fact that the media is being portrayed in a media text. The concepts used assist the audience in being persuaded to believe that the music industry functions in that manner, product placement completely controls our thoughts and producers will do anything to keep the interest of the audience.

First of All, the Codes and Conventions portrayed in the movie are strongly stereotyping the music industry and are following the codes and conventions they use with every new artist. In the movie, when Josie and the Pussycats are starting to become the new big thing, they come out with a music video. In comparison, almost every time a new singer comes out and they are successful they release a follow up music video for their smash hit. This is a convention due to the fact that it is a predictable tactic used in the media. Another example of this key concept is the fact that the lead singer always apparently receives the most attention. This is shown in the movie through the fans and the record label. More specifically, in the movie the record label does everything in their power to emphasize Josie and get rid of Mel and Valerie. In real life, this example is shown with artists such as Destinys Child where the lead singer does seem to receive the most attention. Lastly, the final code/convention portrayed in the movie is the stereotype that all pretty blondes are dumb and ditzy. This is shown very often in other media texts making this a played out role as well as a code/convention.
