The famous pyramids consists three pyramids, they are known as the pyramid of         Khufu, Khafre, and Menkaure, these were the names of the kings for whom they         were built.        The pyramids were built as tombs for the kings, but they are unique in many         ways; for example Khufu’s pyramid’s sides are accurately oriented to the four         cardinal points of the compass, the length of each side at the base averaging 755.9         feet, its original height stood at 480.6 ft, it is now 455 ft tall.         According to the national geographic society, the largest pyramid was built using         2.3 million stone blocks, weighing and average of 2.5 to 15 tons each. Khufu’s         pyramid has three burial chambers, the first is underground, the second is above         ground, perhaps to house a statue of the king, and the third, and known as the         king’s chamber is held at the center of the pyramid.        The pyramids were built with rocks quarried from Aswan (600 miles away) and         transported to Giza likely on rafts during the Nile raise (which occurs during the         rainy season). The stones were pulled on sleds over rolling logs to the pyramid         site.
