The paper will be exploring the impact of the life cycle. Three of the major concepts in the family or individual life cycle will be explored. The first major concept will be self-determination, and how it impacts an individual’s ability to successfully negotiate challenges in each life cycle. Secondly, autonomy will be explored and how it impacts an individual’s ability to successfully negotiate challenges in each life cycle. Lastly, the impact policies and legislation could have on the family or individual during each life cycle.  Self-DeterminationThe human life cycle is a progression of stages a person runs beginning with earliest stages up to adulthood, where an individual learns aptitudes and develops to settle on choices for themselves. There are around nine to twelve phases in the life cycle (McGoldrick, Carter, and Garcia-Preto, 2011). “These stages incorporate pre-birth and labor, as the principal phases of the life cycle” (McGoldrick, Carter, and Garcia-Preto, 2011). Self-determination begins from birth to 18 months old and during the first 18 months if the child is well cared for they begin to develop trust, confidence, and security in their caretakers. They can effectively navigate life’s stresses later in life and begin to develop a sense of self. From the age of two to six, is an era of great strides in language, motor skills, and the ability to relate to the world around them (McGoldrick, Carter, and Garcia-Preto, 2011) This is also the stage where children begin to form peer relationships and disciplines are handed down. This stage can also be marred by feelings of unhappiness and distrust if the children are not well cared for by their caretakers. Later in life, the children will not be able to function normally in society because they were not given the tools to do so by those who cared for them.AutonomyOnce the child achieves the age of 18 to 5 years of age they begin to ponder far from their family unit, by this I mean they turn out to be freer. The youngster needs to pick what garments to wear, sustenance to eat, and what toys they jump at the chance to play with. At this stage, it is critical for the guardians to give the child a chance to realize what aptitudes and capacities they have, this assists with the youngsters freedom and development. The youngster is finding themselves; they require this opportunity to make sense of their own singularity. The parent must locate a sound adjust for helping the youngster if the parent underpins and empowers the youngsters autonomy; the child will probably prevail in the public eye. If the parent does not give the youngster a chance to investigate and get to be distinctly autonomous, they may wind up continually depending on others, low self-regard, and feel they are useless to society.
