Gender and Age
Gender and age have become a major criteria in how a detective looks at their suspects. In many cases it makes more sense for certain criteria to be used. People are asking if the criteria the police are using is a violation of the civil rights and if the police is working toward their public safety.

How does gender effect a person in the criminal justice field? To a great extent a persons gender does not matter to a police officer when they are looking for a suspect but there are some police officers that let judgment take over. There are stereotypes that police will look at such as a serial killer, a rapist, trying to narrow their search to a few people instead of looking at a whole community.

Is this type of profiling a violation of a persons civil rights? The answer is no if the officer uses the stereotypes in the right situation. Statistically there are more men then women who commit crimes. In order for the police to do their best work they must look at who has been caught more times for committing a particular crime. There are exceptions to every statistic but this will only be found out after a detective has time to evaluate all the clues.

In private security situations there should not be any discrimination against a person biased upon a person gender. A security guard who follows a person around biased upon gender is violation the persons civil rights.

Is a persons age a factor in police investigations? The answer is yes and no. There are certain crimes where there are more people of a certain age that commit the crime more than any other age group. These crimes include stealing, defacing private property, or crimes similar to the previously mentioned.
