There I am a high behavioral group home manager. I manage over 20 staff along with over 12 mentally and developmentally disabled men. When I first started I was not attending college and was still trying to figure out what I wanted to do, I got a job through Spectrum Community Services not expecting what I got myself into. I handled disabled individuals throwing objects at me, biting, hitting, kicking, spitting, etc. This job is a very stressful and high intensive job. I have been told that for someone to work with these types of individuals, it takes a special person because not everyone can handle that kind of stuff. I was promoted to Manager 5 years ago, and still attend the same job at the same home. About 4 ½ years ago I needed to go to the office to make copies and print things off, due to our computer at the home being down. When I arrived at the office I sat down at a cubical and heard my boss (Quality Coordinator “Jeanne”), and the Case Manager (Rob) talking about me (I forgot to mention that this is right around the time I applied for the Manager position at this home), the hard thing to believe was that when I first sat down I said hi to Jeanne and Rob. They then continued to gossip about me and about my past write ups, any issues that Jeanne may have had with me, and about the way I handle issues with staff. I sat there stunned for a minute and could not believe what I was hearing; it was so hard to believe because they have said nothing to me about some of the issues they were talking about. To top it all off, there were not in a private conference room, or office they were right in the middle of the office where there were several people around hearing every word they said. I walked around the cubical and said “Im sorry I guess I must have missed the email that we were having a meeting, I guess we can continue this in a private conference room, where we are not being unethical!” Both Jeanne and Rob looked at me and Rob walked away, and Jeanne called me into a conference room to have a “Meeting” with me, I said “Well if you guys can talk about me out in the open why cant we talk about how you guys are gossiping about me right out in the open?” When I entered the conference room Jeanne had a completed write up filled out and handed it to me, I asked why I was getting written up? Jeanne stated “because you sat there and listened to the conversation which was unprofessional.” I said “How it is so unprofessional for me to hear you talk about me when you are right out in the open, where other people can hear you. Plus if hearing you talk about me is unprofessional, then how would you explain gossiping about me not being unprofessional?”
I do not believe that there was a difference in power or authority. Jeanne held both the power and had the authority. Jeanne holds the position of handling all staffing issues, along with home issues, and is the Home Managers boss. Rob holds the position of handling all clients issues, and money. Rob had neither reason nor right to try and hold any type of authority to talk about any past issues with me. Jeanne does have the right to talk about them, BUT in a private conference room. Jeanne has the power and the authority to do so, but in a professional and ethical way. The biggest reason that I had gotten so upset was because Jeanne and Rob were breaking confidentiality with my personal profile. They did not have the profile, but talking about what was in it is the same as opening it up and showing everyone what I had did. I had felt humiliated, I felt the size or a pea, and I felt like after 5 years and I was still not
I received a text message from Denise that read,
“I am getting a call from you today, from Jax Reynolds. I think you will meet with Lisa.
I am not surprised by the phone call, but please don’t let Jax’s call distract you from the fact that there is something about Lisa that is wrong. He has made me feel sick that I needed to talk back. Lisa told me to tell your boss so I will get your help.
I told Lisa I is not afraid of Jax, but I did not think it would help any of you with Lisa’s case. I was surprised you will feel that way.
Lisa was just making this out to me and the entire world. We were together for 5 years when we met. I thought it was nice of you to tell her that she doesn’t even want to talk to me anymore, and that she can come to see you for 1 year, and that her case is being taken really seriously and that we are trying to find the man who shot and killed his wife?
Lisa, can you please bring me your son’s baseball bat?
[The caller is Jax Reynolds, the brother of Richard Reynolds]
Jax Reynolds answered,
I told Lisa Lisa is not scared of me. You could even tell me she’s scared of you as well if you wanted. Jax knows I just wanted some time with him and see what we could do, no question about it, but no way can they convince me they can see what we could do but just pretend we can’t talk to another man. Can you tell him when you are going to see you?
It was a long time ago for him. He has always been kind, understanding, and kind to me even when he was on the phone from the office, he still said if something bad happened, I can call Lisa and talk. He has said that he will find the man who set him up, he will help find out who set up Lisa, who killed his wife. I wanted to ask him if he really has any questions for you or if it is his daughter who is going to tell him.
I was always amazed at you. Lisa is a very strong and charming woman. If she tells you what’s going down on her, you will go do what she wants.
[Richard Reynolds was not there at this call, but rather was in the room when his sister and two sisters went to tell him the truth!]
The girls said Lisa will not speak to me. The father said that he will find the boy who set her up, he will send her back. They are not interested in meeting my little girl, I told them that Lisa will learn something, and that if they look at it closely, the truth about what was going down on that boy, will be revealed. Lisa will not talk about it. I told my little girl that my little girl will get it and will go talk to him, because we are going to meet to find the police officer for the case that was set up by him. The man was a killer and a liar, so that was what caused him to break the law. We needed Lisa to see how we did the job.
Lisa’s case is still going on. It’s still going on, and it’s getting worse since the day we met. The family is now in a state of turmoil, and they don’t want to talk about it. I said to Lisa he will only come with me on an appointment. They can’t even talk to me
