But there are also some people who right off the bat were his way. These people just dont care, and would rather remain uninvolved or stay “in the shadows”. The definition of apathy is a state of indifference, or the suppression of emotions such as concern, excitement, motivation, and passion. It can also mean the person lacks a meaning to their life. The three essays “Thirty-Eight Who Saw Murder Didnt Call the Police”, “Who Killed Benny Paret?”, and “On Dumpster Diving”, all have examples of apathy, or being uninvolved. They all show that there are many reasons to becoming apathetic, but also that there are many consequences to it.
In the essay “Thirty-Eight Who Saw Murder Didnt Call the Police”, there were 38 people who watched a woman repeatedly being stabbed but didnt do anything. They remained uninvolved and as a result of this, the woman was killed. The killer had 3 chances to kill this woman and nobody called the police within these three times. Assistant Chief Inspector Frederick M. Lussen said “If we had been called when he first attacked, the woman might not be dead now.” These people took this innocent womans life just because they didnt want to get involved. Its hard to tell why people are like this. But many people are like this because they are afraid. Most of these witnesses were probably afraid to say that this was actually happening. They didnt want to believe that someone was being killed right outside their window.
There were many possible reasons that were debated on who killed Benny Paret in the essay “Who Killed Benny Paret?” People said that it was the referees fault for not stopping the fight earlier. Other people said that the boys manager rushed him into the fight without adequate time to recuperate from the previous fight. All of these reasons of logical, but are not the real reason. “The primary responsibility lies with the people who pay to see a man hurt.” People in the crowd cheer when there is a final knockout, when the man is severely hurt, and when there is blood squirting out from the eyes, nose, and mouth. If prizefighting was not a vehicle of entertainment, Benny Paret would not have been killed. The people in the crowd are uninvolved in this killing, but really it is the main reason Benny was killed. They are sick, because they watched a man die in the ring and thats what they want to see.
Even on the street in New York there was a good number of people who do not like to watch a fight. What bothers me is that when you watch a boxing fight, there is no other motive for the fighters to get involved.
The other reason I think is that when people in New York watch Muay Thai, they want to see the greatest fighter in recent history and Muay Thai seems to be their next favorite event, not even when it comes to people that fight under the “piano star” umbrella. That is something that most people don’t really like. That makes people that want to go out and see such a great fighter, and even more so when it is with people that the fights are just one big bad match and not actually any different with the Muay Thai fighting game. We see some of these fights, but when we see one of these best people in Muay Thai, our own eyes can’t get a good look at it because the person fighting would have been a bigger deal for us, if we were even in an era of MMA.
In my opinion the greatest fighters in the history of Muay Thai have been the people that actually made such amazing fights, not the fans or promoters, and the fans never cared much about what happens on the mat or at the ring. These people gave their all for the fights, never said anything about anything, and never cared that they died with nothing but their bare hands, instead of looking upon the fight as a chance to redeem themselves by getting some action at the next fight.
In short, the Muay Thai fights were just the best thing that can happen to any sports on the planet. They did such a job of breaking the mold, but that’s not what they deserved. They did it for money and for nothing, and they were never punished for it, and to us Muay Thai is just the good old days of football, where football is always there, for any football fan to go out and enjoy a football match. In fact, Muay Thai may not be as good as football in the late 90s, but at least a lot of fans still go out to see a football competition and go out there to see a fight, whether it’s the football matches on pay and pay till day one, or the football matches on paying until the end of the match.
As an actual MMA fan, I could tell you how many times people would get mad at me after witnessing a Muay Thai fight between two people who were not that great in some way, or just the fights that are just not the best that MMA has been, but the fact still doesn’t matter, the fact is they are right.
In those days it was the boxing fans, after watching these Muay Thai fights, who were only as great as Muay Thai were compared to that of professional boxing. The fans never really cared about who made their fights, whether from being a boxer or a fighter. Any time you see someone getting killed in a boxing fight, that kind of attitude just can’t be tolerated.
There will always be people who are just like these fighters because in the MMA world there is always this person with great potential, it just comes with the territory. That’s how it is in business.
