Segregation in the history of the United States has been evident for decades. The primary causes that characterized this segregation have been substantially diminished. However as previously mentioned in my preceding response paper, the areas known as “ghettos” have grandfathered several generations into unbeneficial living conditions. These areas have consistently generated poorly educated adults who consume governmental funds and do little for the community. Wilson promotes an excellent solution to this plan that would both improve the community, and provide the government service for the free money it grants to the unemployed and poor. Vastly increasing public sector employment to the point where jobs are almost unlimited would considerably boost our country. Food stamps, welfare, and employment are far too easy to acquire for the average American, and too many of us take advantage of this benefit, and give little back to the community. This causes a majority of people to be lazy and refuse to get jobs that pay only a slight increase in earnings. The benefits that our government offers should come with a cost that would better our neighborhoods by means of community service. Our ghettos and other ethnic enclaves, have limitless repairs and improvements to be made, but not enough resources to do so. All the people sitting home collecting their welfare and unemployment checks are perfect candidates to do this work. We would be killing two birds with one stone by giving jobs to those in need and cleaning up our neighborhoods. Our country is in great debt, and we are in no position to
