The approach I decided to use to present this information to my audience was PowerPoint. PowerPoint is the easiest way for me to get my information to my audience. As I use power point, it gives me the opportunity to speak effectively to the audience without losing them in the process. For instance, in some of the slides I have pictures. Though some of the pictures seem to be self-explanatory, there is so much more to be said. This is where I can take to opportunity to explain what I mean. Since I enjoy speaking in front of groups of people, power points give me the opportunity to develop my skills as well as draw the audience in to what is next. Within the power point, the slides come in different ways. Some are just a surprise when they come in because I need the audience to be surprised. Others come in slow because I need the audience to absorb what they are seeing, I need them to think about why that particular slide with that particular information is in that spot. This gives me the opportunity to explain and answer their questions before they even ask. Another reason power point was chosen is because, I like the element of surprise. I like to give very little information on the slide and watch the anticipation on the faces of those in the audience as to what is going to be said and what is coming next.
In the past, when I was in school or went to some type of presentation, it would always amaze me as to why most of the presenters did the same thing. Each of them decided to put all the information on the slide and then read each slide word for word. That is so very boring, however, so many people opt to present in this way. As a professor, I encourage my students to be creative when they have to present their work. There are those that always follow directions such as, be creative, never read what is on the slide because we can do that ourselves, go over what you are going to say so that you will not have to constantly read from your notes and engage your audience, in other words look at the room. Though I go over these directions every time, there are always at least two people that do exactly what I ask them not to do and then get upset when they do not get the grade they believe they should have received on the presentation.
As much as I enjoy power point presentations, I did come across some challenges. The first challenge was, I had no idea where to begin. I read the directions over and over again but could not figure out what to do. I do realize that most of the time I can be very over analytical which causes problems for me more times than I like to admit. I over think even the smallest of projects to my detriment. The second issue I came across was trying to get the slides to do what I wanted them to do. I needed them to come across the screen in a certain way depending on the content presented in that slide. I would have the slides come in a certain way but when I went back to view the power point, they all kept doing the same thing so I had to keep going back again and again until it was correct. The third issue was trying to figure out what I wanted to write in the notes section. There was so much information that I wanted to present but I had to figure out how to present that information without being too wordy and without confusing the audience. That process would have been much easier for me if I was actually standing in front of the audience. I knew what I wanted to say if I had been in front of the audience but it is hard trying to decipher what should be put in the note section to get the maximum respond and understanding from what I was presenting.
