Never Let Me Go
Never Let Me Go is from the point of view of Kathy H. She is one of the main characters and narrates the story in the first person. As a result, the voice to describe the feelings and motivations of the others is not present. Everything is presented as Kathy sees it. Kathy is very observant, however; she remains neutral. There is a subtle sadness to Kathys tone and point of view. She lives a solitary life. She had to move place to place and that didn’t allow her to make any permanent attachments. If it were written from the point of view of anyone else it would change in the feeling of the environment and other subtle changes. The way Tommy or Ruth reads a fellow clones’ disposition may differ.

Tommy, on the other hand is an athletic young man, but has a temper and is often teased for fun by the other students. Some of his outbursts of frustration would show differently on paper. Tommy, being in between the two girls would show a different and boyish side to the novel unlike Kathy’s perspective.

Ruth is the third of the three main characters, and the first of them to die after donating organs. She is a popular girl at Hailsham, organizing clubs and groups of girls that center around herself. The point of view would be similar to the stereotypical “popular” girl. Her jealousy causes her to keep Kathy and Tommy apart. A story from Ruth’s perspective would be interesting and full of insight into her jealous stuck thoughts.
