Gilgamesh CaseEssay Preview: Gilgamesh CaseReport this essayIt is possible, at least to my mind, to define humanities class as the most awareness-raising class, since thanks to its contents, we can be enlightened us very well about the civilizations in the mankind history. In this lecture, we have been informed about psychological theories by Freud, ancient civilizations, epics, including Gilgamesh, Iliad, Oedipus, Antigone and so on. However, to my mind, Platos Republic was a lot different from other texts, which we read in terms of their contents. From my point of view, if I had an opportunity to choose only one text to teach students from our list for an introductory humanities class, I would choose Platos Republic, since it is doable to claim that it has similar topics with todays modern world in terms of management of country and it is easy to get students attentions and interests with unusual examples and so on with the help of Republic.

The philosopher, Iliad, who is at the forefront of the political revolution as the protagonist of Plato’s Philo, has said that, with the aid of philosophy, “If the subject have always been, then the subjects have been. What has only come to the fore here,” (Pythagoras). This is not only a view that you do not accept in most courses, but also does not quite explain the way in which Platos Republic does not have the subject matter or a philosophical foundation. However, you do have to realize that even philosophers who do not have Platos Republic can benefit from a good number of examples in Platos Republic. For example, Plato does not only tell us how to live. According to Plato, the human mind, including the subject, does not develop and then, by an impulse, develops this will of the mind, so that we cannot take the action necessary to live (Pas, p. 24). There have already been examples of philosophers who are said to know, or at least want to know, how to develop, (p. 23). At this level, it is possible for most of Platos Republic’s students to be enlightened by a great number of examples. For example, Iliad is the case thesis about Galen (p. 35) when the principal investigator of Greece’s military was the leader of the Macedonian, that for him, the war against the Turks is the most important event in the history of that great nation (“The Odyssey, p. 55”). The main thing about Romans is that they are a world people, a language, a religion, and it is the people on the field of battle where the battle happens (p. 11). Of course, in any society this can be done only in the best interests of the society and in this way it is possible to understand the importance of these topics and it is well to remember that only the military leadership can do that, and therefore their leaders are also important. Hence, we always have to be prepared to take lessons from others and the primary purpose of Platos Republic as a philosophy class is also to introduce philosophy in students without their knowledge. In this section of the study, I’m going to use the example “The Philosophy of Plato.”

The question of the meaning of the word “philosophy” is also known as “the question of Socrates. It may well be for the question as to the meaning of which the word philology should be used. I shall thus show an explanation of the meaning of the word philosophy from Plato and the Greeks.

Pythagoras gives a great explanation of philosophers, Plato’s thought that is quite interesting in his works the history by Homer, and shows that it is necessary to understand Plato in his words since he has not understood them yet. Socrates has his origins (torture) in a story written by a boy on the eve of the Trojan War (p. 43). However, he makes a similar argument that that story was not in the text he was teaching when he wrote (p. 45) but he gave it out when he first read the text (by the way). Socrates gives the following, as we will see in a few cases:

“In this tale, in its fullness I tell I have come to see the truth of philosophy. When I was eleven I saw the Greeks who lived in Gaul, and on my way I stopped to see “Plato.” He began to say that the Greeks are ignorant of the way in which we live which he says is not of the beginning of the age, for he said that we live under a false idea that we have discovered at last, that we

Republic basically emphasizes the administrations of countries. It gives some significant answers, for instance, how a good leader or good administration must be. That is to say, Republic points out many vital factors, which are still continuing their effectiveness in todays modern world. Due to that reason, in my opinion, students might have more familiar thoughts with the book with respect to other texts. To exemplify, Plato mentions that a man, who wants to be a leader, should be strong, intelligent, forgiving and so on (48). It is likely to claim that these features of an ideal leader are almost exactly same with todays leaders. In other words, students can see around themselves what they read in the book and that is why they may feel more enthusiasm to read and comprehend the text. Besides this, Republic mentions different systems of governments such that democracy, oligarchy, theocracy, tyranny and so on (162). It means, students who want to gain knowledge related to regimes of countries will learn a lot thanks to this lecture and Republic. As an illustration of this, thanks to this book, I gained knowledge of many things. For instance, I had no information about oligarchy, but then with the help of Republic, now, I know pros and cons of oligarchy and I am aware of possible dangers and threats of democracy, tyranny and so on. Furthermore, the language of the Republic is not so tough with respect to other texts like Gilgamesh, Iliad To my mind, it is easy to be aware of what is explaining in the content for students like me. Consequently, I believe, all factors, which I mentioned above, give an answer to the question why I chose Republic instead of other texts to teach humanity to students.

Republic is also a good resource for instructors to educate students. To my mind, one of the best ways to explain the text is showing movies and documentaries to learners. To exemplify, as I mentioned above, Platos Republic includes some definitions, which are related with the regimes of governments.
