Planet Earth: A Report to Supreme Leader

REL212 – Assignment 1
April 22, 2013
To Supreme Leader Zenu Zenu of Planet Fladix: herein lies my mission end report on whether Earth is a religious planet. I consider the mission a resounding success as I was able to view not only social interactions, but people worshiping their Gods. Using our advanced technology I was able to monitor their activities unnoticed while they were in their domiciles and in their place of worship. While observing them I was able to observe their social interactions, way of dress, and rituals.

When setting up my plan of observation I decided to focus my efforts on the Earths largest religion, Christianity. Christianity is made up of many different groups which identify themselves with Christianity, including but not limited to: Amish; Baptists; Catholics; Jehovahs Witnesses; Methodists; Nestorians; Pentecostals; Shakers; and the Church of Christ just to name a few. The followers of Christianity believe their savior Jesus Christ has already been born into the world of man before being crucified to resolve the sins of mankind.

Almost all Christians congregate in a church normally on Sundays, but some churches also meet on Wednesdays for fellowship and to worship their one true God. During the service families gather to listen to a preacher, sometimes called father, pastor or priest, who reads scripture from the Holy Bible. The Bible is believed to be the word of their God which was written by apostles; men who continued the teachings of Jesus Christ after his crucifixion. During the service men, women, and children take part in a ritual they call holy sacrament. This is normally a wafer and either wine or a type of juice that represents the body and blood of their savior Jesus Christ. They also sing and pray during the service as a way to praise and strengthen their relationship with their Lord. While the preacher is giving his sermon some people will yell out Amen, or testify; this is a way to show their agreement with the message of the sermon.

It seems a lot of people that call themselves a Christian almost seem ashamed of their religion. They will talk about off color topics, but will shy away when asked to share their views on religion; for many it seems to be a title they only honor one day a week or on special occasions. There are many though that take their faith very serious and will jump at the opportunity to talk to non-believers and try to convert them to Christianity. You cannot pick a Christian out of a crowd as they have no specialized garments of meaning. Many male followers wear t-shirts, blue-jeans, or even shorts to the weekly service.
