The Pioneer Cemetery is a unique cemetery in many different ways. I have been to many different cemeteries, and I have never seen one quite as unique as this one. When I first saw the cemetery a feeling came across me that made me feel sort of sad in a way. When I looked at the run-down tombstones, broken bricks, torn down fences, and much more rubbish it almost made me feel sorrow for the descendants buried in this cemetery. I know if my family members where buried in this cemetery I would definitely have to do something about it. Another thing I noticed was there are some pretty important people buried in this cemetery. People such as Captain William Butler are buried here. Captain William Butler was a native of Virginia. He was also a pioneer settler of Butler County. Captain William Butler is the person whom Butler County was named after. The Indians near Butler Springs massacred him on March 18, 1828. Another name I noticed was Walter Oliver Parmer. The reason I noticed this name is because the elementary school in Greenville is called W.O. Parmer. Come to find out, the school is not even named after him. Among the Parmer family was Walters mother and father, Dr. Clinton D. Parmer and Eleanor Oliver Parmer. His wife was also buried there; her name is Elizabeth Dunklin Parmer. Walter was seventy-six years old when he died living from November 8, 1855 to May 27, 1932. His wife, Elizabeth, was seventy-five when she died; she lived from April 9, 1859 to April 27, 1934. I felt as if I were sitting in a field full of some of my hometown heroes on a breezy summery day getting ready to reminisce about the good old days.

In conclusion, there are many things about the graveyard that I would change if I were in chare but there are also things that make this cemetery unique from the others. The broken fences, missing tombstones, unmarked graves, and old trees, in my opinion, make this cemetery one of a kind.
