Considering that the implementation of sub-metering system A would not entirely address the problem of energy consumption, introduction of a cultural control system seems inevitable. Our cultural control system is comprised of set of values, symbols and norms that would influence the members of UTS (Building 3) and would ultimately contribute to changes in their behaviour. Moreover it will comply with mentioned requirements in our planning and budgeting process.

The following controls may inhibit a reduction in energy consumption;
Symbol controls:
Pictures of endangered animals can be widely used to reinforce desirable behaviour in building 3. According to a recent research which has been done by Carnegie Mellon university individuals react intensely after they were exposed to the pictures of pole bears suffering the lack of ice due to global warming’s effect and consequently reduced their consumption level. Wide range of posters with the pictures of endangered animals accompanied by grasping written comments on posters can be hang near power switches or on computer’s backgrounds and screen savers to attract the members’ attention.

Clan controls:
Our desired culture can also be instilled to our members by establishing Eco-friendly clubs. Creation of these clans can be encouraged by UTS Union. Members of these clubs can contribute extremely by educating other students and staff about the running Plug wise project and reminding them of the great role that can be played by each individual in meeting the objectives of the project. This can be achieved by representing the club to others and attempting to attract new members during semester events such as O-Day, Clubs Day or O
