Functionalism: The conflict that is forcing the students and the other many rioters in Egypt to demand for Mubareks demise comes from the realities that there are no jobs available, price of food is rising, and the presence of regime corruption. With all of these problems and the fact that they have been in a State of Emergency for decades, the stability of the Egyptian society is basically nonexistent. These people that are rioting are trying to demand that someone new take over Egypt so that in result the country can regain a social and financial balance. In result of doing that, major conflict would be avoided because no longer would people be so poor, or afraid of authority like they are now. People are being detained for no reason, use of technology is being taken or limited by the government. Letting the citizens of Egypt take part in how the country is run will ultimately bring back a sense of what is important and valued. I feel that in the perspective of a Functionalist, they would condone what the rioters are trying to accomplish because they understand that the rioters are doing what is in the best interest for themselves.

Conflict: Oil is over $100 a barrel, food is becoming expensive and scarce, the government is filled with corruption that is being realized by the fed up citizens. In this perspective, it is apparent that it is “Mubarek VS. Egypt”. In the eyes of those who are rioting, the act of revolting against the government and Mubarek has become inevitable due to the fact of what they have been dealing with over a long period of time. Mubarek isnt living with the conditions that much of that society has to. To them, he is benefitting from the choices he makes for the country while they must deal with the horrible consequences of those decisions. For this perspective, what is going on in Egypt would probably be seen as justified.

Social Construction: The conflict in Egypt is mainly due to the fact that a lot of society agrees with each other that Mubarek should no longer reign as the leader. Those that oppose this notion (i.e. government) are creating the other end of the conflict. The statistics that are showing those citizens in Egypt as being deprived of basic necessities such as food and water are being interpreted as a problem, which is true. It is forcing them to act out by rioting and protesting there leader because they want to fix the issues. The force of a million people was brought together because they are all individually experiencing the hardships that are explained. They all agree that they shall not have to live with the current conditions that are undesirable, and by seeing other countries (Tunesia) act out, they too feel they can make a statement by mimicking their revolution. For this perspective, it can be construed that the events in Egypt would relate to the construction of their society because a mass amount of people are experiencing issues related to one another
