Personal Exploration of Knowledge
Personal Exploration of Knowledge
Exploring my personal exploration of knowledge, I began by gathering my thoughts of the assignment. I began by thinking of my experience attending a hip-hop concert versus a country music concert. In my exploration of knowledge of the concert, I would have to include my personal perception and experience from my initial invitation to the actual concert. My personal exploration will include initial invitation, perception, and skepticism of attending.

Invitation to the Concert
A close friend was attending Faith Hill concert and she had an extra ticket. She offered me the ticket. With excitement, I accepted her offer. After the initial acceptance of the invitation to attend the concert, I started to become somewhat reluctant. Reasoning was because I was unfamiliar with the country artist and the environment of the concert. I was aware of the artist Faith Hill, from her Monday night football game introduction. Without knowledge of this genre of music, my motivation was a girl’s night out and a different experience with music.

My friend was familiar with country music, unlike me I was more at ease with R&B (Rhythm and Blues) music. When my friend spoke of Faith Hill and her musical performances, excitement showed on her face. She proved me with information about the performer from beginning to end. Feldman (2003) “People claim to know many things and they attribute knowledge to others in a variety of cases” (p. 2). Seeing her excitement about the artist, I could do nothing but continue to prepare myself to attend the concert.

Preparation for the Concert
To understand the artist, I decided to search the internet for information about Faith Hill. I was looking for information on her beliefs, family, and why she became a singer. According to Truncellito (2007) “Knowledge can also be transmitted from one individual to another via testimony; that is my justification for a particular belief could amount to the fact that some trusted source has told me that it is true” (p. 6). The information took me into the world of Faith Hill as a performer. I was able to experience her music before attending the concert. The music was an expression of the artist and her emotions. I now understand why my friend gets excited when she talks about attending the artist/performer concert.

Before visiting internet sites about the artist, I was skeptic about attending the concert because of the unknown. According to Cooper (1983) “Humean empiricism, by resting knowledge on immediate experience ‘impressions’ and ‘ideas’ directly results in skepticism” (p. 165).

The approach of knowledge falls in line with the theories of rationalism, empiricism, pragmatism and skepticism.
