Peer pressure comes in many forms and from different types of people. For teens and young adults peer pressure can be found in schools, cliques, parties, the media, and even at jobs. Peer pressure is so potent in peoples lives that all their choices begin to be affected by it without them even noticing it. Something as simple as what you are going to wear to school or what you are going to eat for lunch is an effect of peer pressure. Many young men make the choice everyday of either following the crowd with sagging their pants or pulling them up, wearing a belt, and looking like they arent a lost cause.

In the media peer pressure is sent through subliminal messages by ads, music videos, and movies. They sell people false dreams by making them think that they can be a rapper if they sag their pants and sell drugs. It isnt cool to be that guy that does his homework all the time and makes straight As. This is why most of the youth sag their pants, sell drugs, and try to rap. Either of the two will happen for sure.

There are two types of groups or cliques to be around, positive and negative ones. With positive cliques there normally isnt peer pressure from the other members of the group but you feel pressured to be a better person and hold yourself to a higher standard. With negative cliques this is where you find the most original form of peer pressure. Most of the time, these cliques involve using drugs and doing other illegal activities. You may be a so called “good,” person but hanging around people like this you will start to involve yourself as well in illegal activities because you dont want to be left out or you want to fit in.

It may start out with simple stuff such as asking you to “hit the blunt just one time,” or “we are just going to steal a piece of candy.” Then next thing you know you are going to jail for grand theft auto. The smallest decisions can cause the biggest domino affects in your life. People just dont know how much peer pressure is in their
