Patriotism can be a good thing for a country or a community, in that it can help society grow. In contrast, there is a dark side to patriotism when people blindly support a cause. In an ideal world, patriotism is a feeling of support and love for ones country.
When studying history, we can see many historical figures had a great deal of patriotism for their country. For example, the founding fathers of America were patriotic in that they had pride in America. People from all generations can find love in their nationality and pride in their country. During wars, such as the World Wars, Americans showed their support to the country in many ways. Men felt the need to join the army to support the country. Dying for your country was the greatest way to show patriotism. The people at home would make things to send to their loved ones away at war. People would put up signs and ribbons to show their support of the country during the time of war. In times of peace, Americans have shown their patriotism in singing the National Anthem and hanging an American flag outside their home.
In times of disaster, patriotism can play a large part in bringing people together. September 11th is a great example of Americans showing their patriotism during a time of complete disaster. The terrible attack on September 11th was traumatic for so many people. Americans were astounded by what a horrific attack had happened, right here at home. The weeks following the attack, people wore red, white, and blue to show their patriotism. Yellow ribbons were worn to morn those lost. All over the country people gathered for a moment of silence for those lost on September 11th. Americans felt a sense of unison. Many people felt the same compassion and sadness for victims lost in the attack. People were proud to be from American. Americans wanted to show everyone that they were hurt but would still push through.
It doesn’t matter if you were a little bit grumpy or a little grumpy about the terror attack on Pearl Harbor, there are many elements to patriotism.
America has a national identity. As Americans, we’re part of a very complicated and diverse group. With such a diverse group there are many elements to patriotism. Who is the biggest group of Americans? If there’s one group of Americans I would feel at the top of my list is those that care about American lives. If there’s a group that’s really different than the rest of us, I would feel that we’re a different race or that we can come together and make a difference and I think that’s what I believe.
Some people ask who is the biggest group of Americans. They don’t have the answers. What kind of the numbers are they talking too, and I think some groups feel that way too much of the problem is that there’s too many Americans that are trying to express their patriotism, but there are not enough Americans being part of our nation.
There were a lot of people who felt scared and confused that day. There were people who felt betrayed with that group.
People didn’t know their country was in danger. They didn’t know that they had been betrayed and they didn’t know what the consequences of that betrayal would be.
The group of Americans from the South felt this great need to be homecoming heroes because the whole world was watching. And they were getting pulled in different directions. They had to walk into a room of honor. That wasn’t the best way for us to share our story with the world and we were coming home from a world where our people were being betrayed again. We were there. We walked into a room where we were a part of something special and we wanted our country back. We walked into the United States of America and we talked about it. We told America what they told us we wanted to know. They told us that we didn’t deserve to be represented as we were and that our patriotism was going to break out.
What has been the impact of the tragedy on the American people?
I think the most painful part is we are the most affected group. We felt so shaken because the world was watching and we were all scared and in disbelief because at the end of the day what we want to see is America we will return home. We were told we were on the road to victory and we were never going to leave back home. Our America is back but our country is not here.
