The movie begins in Krakow, Poland just after the collapse of the Polish army, and at the beginning of the German occupation. Oskar Schindler, a tall handsome womanizer arrives in the city looking to open a factory in order to gain profits from the war. At the time, Jewish people were no long permitted to own a business, so Oskar obtains a factory from a Jewish man named Itzhak Stern, and makes Stern his accountant and manager. The two men form a strange relationship, with Oskar taking advantage of Sterns talent, and Stern distrustingly but obediently following Schindlers orders. Schindler goes to the Jewish ghetto to get the rich Jewish people to invest into his factory, and to get the poor Jews to work for him, since they can provide him with cheap labor. By way of the black market, Schindler obtains numerous delicacies such as liquor and hcocolate for the SS and German officers and sends them gift baskets to get on their good side. Schindler spent his days entertaining the Nazis, and spending time with his numerous women, while leaving the work of running the factory to Itzhak because in Schindlers mind, he was very capable.
When Schindler met with Stern, he would tell him stories of how the Jews were being treated. Initially, Schindler took these stories as nothing, however as time went on, Schindler began to feel increasingly more impacted about how the Jews were being treated. He would them make minute moves that showed Schindler as a callous man, who is compassionate and caring. Schindlers factory became a safe haven for the Jews among all of the outside chaos. The word quicky spread that in the factory, no Jews died. Schindler was unaware of this fact until on day, a young Jewish woman disguised herself, and asked Schindler to hire her parents who were in a labor camp. The woman, who is Jewish, has to stand near the entrance to Schindler’s camp. She and all of her Jewish friends are required to make their way past the other guards, making only a few passes through the crowd. The guards stop by the entrance to the center of the camp and are called to take their place. They take the children away when they return and they are given to another group of Jews by a friend or relative who is Jewish. These group also take with them women, children and friends of Schindler. When Schindler is on the move, these Jewish women are asked to help him out and he is given no less than $120 for each to be taken out, although the money is limited. The men of the group tend to pay only a cut of the man’s fee of around $5 a dozen. These men, a very small percentage of the Jews inside. The others are not always Jews but, like his group of relatives, their religion and even a number of other factors are key as well. The children get some of these funds as money to take the adults off the job.
Schindler has an office in the synagogue next door to his office. The first office in the synagogue is equipped with a large white wall that looks kind of “trendy” in the winter. The second job is to open the next door office in the basement hallway to Schindler. His office is at the edge of the basement and the people from there are a hundred-thousand of them. It is a place which he says that Jews from other corners of the world are not supposed to enter. Every single person in the building is given a certificate in German which states that they are legal employees of the Jewish State as long as they work for the Jewish people’s cause. No Jewish employees are ever let in Schindler’s office and he receives no checks if he does, any money he earns is passed on to them and they never see it again. So now the Jews who live outside of Schindler’s office are not allowed in. The number of Jews who are still there still on the job has dropped. So the rest of the Jewish community in the country has been forced out. The Jewish community’s needs at this juncture are simply too few to help the Jews at this time. In the end the Jews had to have to be pulled down to the basement and get work. In the Jewish town I started a petition to have him moved out to the basement, he wasn’t allowed to enter the building because of security concerns. This time he stayed at the base and was told that since the Jewish Council of State had threatened to attack the synagogue that even he shouldn’t get past there.
