An organizational structure defines what behavior is suitable within an organization, the lines of authority, accountability, and the relationship with its external environment. The organizational structure shows the pattern or arrangement of jobs and groups of jobs within the organization, this becomes more than an organizational chart, and relates to reporting and operational relationship that have some degree of performance. There several components that can be used as the building blocks of an organizational structure; department and divisions, management hierarchy, rules, procedures, goals, task forces, or committees can be used temporary (INC.).

The organizational structure should be created and implemented for the purpose to achieve the companys goals. Many times a structure does not perform positively to the companys performance because it was not redesigned as the company grew. Even at times for large companies changing a structure is not enough, hierarchy plays an important part in any organizational structure. As more levels management arise the more hierarchy is needed. Hierarchy prevents any misunderstandings that may arise, especially if the organizational structure does not match the actual functional structure (INC.).

Facebook is a social media site that has developed a strong organizational structure suited for social media that is geared to their product,. It may appear looking at the site that it does not require an organizational structure but an in-depth look will reveal that it does. In 2004 Facebook was launched and is the second most used social media website, number one is Twitter. As everyone knows CEO Mark Zuckerberg the rest of the staff although not as famous but play a major role in the success of Facebook as shown in the organizational chart (Hierarchy Structure, 2013):
