Operant Conditioning
Operant Conditioning is huge issues that as I grow older notice more of. Parents are no longer teacher their children manners or courtesy. You see children screaming in restaurants and crying in church and you watch these parents just sit there and not discipline or walk out with the child. Operant Conditioning starts in infancy. A baby learns that if he/she cries and mom comes that mom will come regardless. But in present day mothers are experimenting with letting the child cry so it learns to be independent and not overly attached to its mother. I was raised that if I made a scene in a restaurant or in public I would be punished. So I caught on real quick to be respectful and always act like the son my parents would be proud of. Ever since then when my family and I go to big functions and events my parents get complemented on how mature I am and how much of a gentleman I am. I even get complements on how I am more mature than most of my 20 year old cousins. Operant Conditioning is 50% the parents job and 50% the childs. In my opinion its the individuals choice to be either a delinquent or a respectable adult.
One behavior that I would like to change is my time management. My whole priorities for the week always get switched up. I always start the week thinking I am going to go to the gym everyday after school. Then I am going to make time to go up to see my girlfriend, then make time to play xbox with my friends at night. But it usually ends up being hangout with my friends once I get out of school till midnight almost every night of the week. I virtually get almost nothing done during the week. But I am slowly getting into the swing of getting things done more often. I just need to go right home, get my homework done, workout, do some chores then go out. Its tough to break and get out of the rut you have been in for years and change to something completely different. For instance: My older brother is a big successful gym buff. And everyone expects me to turn out big and buff like him, but its tough going to school, working full time, running my own business, having a girlfriend, and still making time for friends and family on top of all that. Operant Conditioning makes all the difference from the day someone is born. It decides weather your son or daughter is going to be a brat or a perfect child. I am more than grateful that my parents instilled
