The OMNI Tower Hotel will have a medium security system. The fact that the hotel will be located in midtown Manhattan poses a risk due to the threat of terrorism but at the same time the OMNI is a hotel and guests should be made to feel safe and comfortable at the same time. The possible threats that the security system will be designed to overcome are disorderly contact, robbery, internal theft, and assaults. The most likely threat group will be classified as angry guests, disgruntled employees, and couriers.

The hotel security has to protect the guests more so than the building. Theres needs to be an understanding that the hotel in itself has very little to offer to intruders, the likely hood that a robber is going to walk up and demand the concierge to hand over money is highly unlikely. The guests are the ones who bring valuables into the hotel rooms and the ones whose information including credit card numbers are stored into the computer system. They are the ones we need to protect from one another; for instance a child can leave their room without their parents and get harmed by the guest down the hall or on the elevator. Guests also need to be protected from hotel employees because certain employees have access to guest rooms and financial information.

Furthermore, being that the OMNI is a tower the need for adequate fire protection and emergency evacuation is critical when so many lives are at stake. It is also important to consider that this is a hotel and guests expect a pleasant experience, so in order not to have the guests feel like prisoners will have an effect on the security methods we put fourth. Even though guests are the main focus of the protection plan, terrorism can not be ignored. When having a tower in the middle of Manhattan occupied by large numbers of people there needs to be some safety measures that prevent terrorism.

The types of windows, doors, locks, and lightening that will be used are extremely important in security and safety. When dealing with a hotel three things need to be considered, security, safety, and to be sure that the guest stay is not overly compromised by security measures. The types of windows that are installed are not of great importance, mainly because the likely hood of an intruder scaling a building in the middle of Manhattan to get into a hotel is remote. It is safe to say that the majority of those who will be staying at the hotel are tourist and therefore would like to have windows that allow maximum visibility.

Given that fact that a terrorist attack is a conceivable occurrence, tempered glass will be used. All hotel rooms will have sliding windows and there will only be a basic lock on them, which will allow guests to open and close them as they please. There will not be any windows located in the hallways on guest floors; there will be a landscape window located in the main lobby.

The hotel will have multiple entrances for specific purposes. All guests will enter through the main entrance; all employees will enter through a separate door on the side of the building, in the back of the building will be an entrance for all courier and mail services and there will be exit doors as well. The hotels main entrance will have two revolving doors, given the amount of traffic hotels generally have and given the fact that they remain open twenty-four hours, these doors will have no security lock features.

The hotel rooms will have hollow metal doors, which will help protect guests from fire. All hotel rooms will have code-operated locks; these are of advantage because if lost they can deactivated quickly and it allows the tracking of time and the number of entries into any room. All other doors aside from fire exit doors will be restricted to guests and will be made of metal. All doors reserved for employee will also have code-operated locks; this will allows us to keep detailed tabs on employees. If something happens in a particular part of the hotel we will know which employee was there for example maids will have access to hotel rooms and if a guest reports something missing we will be able to track which cleaning staff member was last in the room. The doors leading to the staircases will be metal doors and they will have no locks on them for fire safety purposes.

The lighting in the hotel will vary depending on location; the hotel rooms will have incandescent lights, hallways will have quartz lamps, and staircases will have mercury vapor lamps. There will be a backup power supply in the event of power failure. The lights are mainly to protect the guest from attack, the same way in which street lights help to protect individuals walking home at night.

The hotel will have detailed surveillance. Every floor will have at least one surveillance camera located in the elevator/lobby area; every elevator will have a camera; all entrances and exits
