Scientific Method Case Study
Picture a healthy green lawn: perfect for lounging, great for ball games and cookouts, a real asset to your home (Virtualave.net). This case study scenario focuses on the fact that the grass surrounding my house has been unwell kept, which has cased the grass to become brown, short, and dead, while my neighbors house manages a healthy and beautiful lawn with green, tall, and alive grass. By using the Scientific method I will be able to conduct an experiment by recognizing the problem, developing a hypothesis, designing an experiment to test my hypothesis, analyzing my data to reach conclusions about my hypothesis, and sharing knowledge with the scientific community.

What makes grass maintain its fresh crisp green healthy look? It was known that the grass that surrounded my house has always been brown, short, and dead. My neighbors house, directly across the street, has been able to maintain green, tall, and alive grass.

Is the texture of my soil different from my neighbors? Is it the fact that the grass is being improperly mowed? Is there a need for a sprinkler system to be installed for the proper distribution of water? Grass well groomed with the proper health care program such as healthy soil, mowing the lawn high, and watering deeply but not to often can insure that the grass maintains a healthy green, tall, and alive look.

The first experiment consisted of observation of the difference between my soil and my neighbors soil. Based upon this first observation it appears that my soil lacks good texture, and some key nutrients. My neighbors lawn on the other hand manages to have good texture, some key nutrients, and the right pH balance. The second experiment consisted of observation of how the mowing of the lawn was conducted. This second observation showed that I was using a dull lawn-mower blade with the cutting height set to low, which caused my grass to get cut extremely low. My neighbors cutting height was set to the highest setting, which enabled my neighbor to get a 3 to 4 inch cut and the relieve of stressing the grass. The third experiment consisted of observation of a sprinkler system being installed for evenly distribution of water. This third observation disproves the fact that my neighbors and I all have timed water sprinklers that distribute the same amount of water evenly.

My soil lacks good texture, key
