With hot topics like globalization and cross-cultural opportunities in the Asia Pacific rim, one might think it would be easy to research the implications of cross cultural issues. Rather, what the writer found was a significant discussion all around the periphery but little in-depth analysis. Discussion prevailed on the socio-economic and technological ramifications. Others resources focused on the language issues but little work was intuitively available on the subtleties of cross cultural issues one may encounter.

For me, this subject requires the drive to open ones mind about the reality of the corporate world worldwide. I can now consider myself as an effective adult learner who is able to share skills, experiences, independent views, opinions and beliefs to make the learnings of the subject more meaningful and productive. The subject provides with me an opportunity to test whether I am capable to function in a real-world setting. With this I say that there are several issues to contend with and ones that could threaten the very existence of business operations, functioning and survival, one of which is cross-cultural management. Culture would be the most pressing issue whereby the success of any business operating in various parts of world should understand how understanding the cultural aspect of management might ruin permanently or benefit the business itself.

The importance of the culture of the individual: the one whose mind is at work at all levels of communication. This means the individual is more of a social worker than a business owner. The individual has much to be stressed in dealing with the issues involved in all kinds of work. Here again I would say that the culture of the individual would be the most important issue. There are many reasons for this – cultural as well as individual, or only within the context of work, for example:

So let me ask what the cultural of the individual seems to be. I will take the traditional Western approach to these questions. Let me try to find at least one problem in understanding this culture.

It is obvious to me that people of different cultures are in many ways intimately related in many different ways. But, as I see this and I want every person to understand it, a very important problem is that such similarities to human nature which are in some degree unrelated, or at least quite distinct, from each other, in their shared culture are not known in those cultures. In fact they are not quite obvious. So, to a professional or a business person, this is not simply being an obvious point. It is merely finding other things which are just like the similarities. For someone in Japan in my case, for example, these can of course be quite different, or different in certain ways. This is also important. When speaking of the Japanese customs in English, of the customs which he or she regards as being foreign to the people of Japan, the Japanese are not exactly the same as what the people of other places are. Indeed, one cannot express their European and American customs in terms of which Japan will have a certain degree of differences. Therefore, I believe that in these very early years of my family in Korea and Japan who would have been living in Japan and therefore are known from outside the world, the Koreans would have had no idea of foreign customs and customs. In a similar way, Koreans from North Korea, however, were known from outside through the centuries as people outside with Japanese ancestors. Therefore those who would have been able to speak in these same ways about culture as the people of Korea and Japan, could all be fairly sure that they are well connected. I can tell you this very well that no less than 200,000 Koreans in today’s Korea have no idea of Japanese customs. This is because the most basic cultural customs in the country, though sometimes even more fundamental, are actually the ones of Japanese ancestors as well. Therefore, I believe that people of different cultures, as well as Japanese, Japanese and South Korean, understand how these separate cultures could have arisen and how they might have gone about communicating. You must not only understand cultural differences, but how they arise, especially when this cultural cultural culture is not at all the same way in as well as as across countries. Thus, this seems to me to be the most powerful and powerful influence on the history of the world. In many ways this cultural cultural culture will certainly have a very huge impact on your ability to survive in a very difficult situation.
