Database design
Data base systems are being used in many types of businesses throughout the world today. According to the estimates, the number of databases in the world today exceeds 10 million (Kroenke & Auer, 2011). Where going to talk about what a database is, database architectures and the type of database that is being used in my company today.

Before we can go into database system we need to know what a database is. According to reference.com “A database is an organized pool of logically-related data” (Dictionary.com, 2013) . A database system is a program that assist with organizing and managing electronic database. Database systems are used to organize the information that is store in a database. Think of each piece of data as a physical file the database is the file cabinet that the file needs to be stored in. If you jest put files randomly in a file cabinet it would be difficult to find the file you where looking for when you needed it. Therefore, the database management system reviews the file as it is entered into the system determines where the file needs to go and stores it there for easy recall of the file later. In the most basic since the database system is a file organizer.

According to Georgetown University website, the definition for database architectures is “Database Architecture The collective application and database instances that comprise the complete system.” (Georgetown University, 2012). There are many types of databases out today and multiple types database architectures. The types of architectures are one-tiered, two-tiered client and N-tiered client. A one-tiered architecture database take place when all the information is stored locally on one computer and you do not have to log into another to find file or information. In a two-tier client architecture there are two types that exist a thin-client (fat-server) configuration which happens when most of the processing occurs on the server or a fat-client (thin-server) configuration which happens when most of the work is done on the client machine. A good example of a two tier client architecture it Google drive where the information is store in the “Cloud” Googles servers and you can access it from you home PC make changes to it and send the information back to the servers all without storing it locally.

N-tiered architecture are just basically a three tiered architecture that uses a middle tier known as the Business tier. This tier helps relive the client machine and the server of some of its processing duties. It does this by translating the information that is being sent from one system into a langue the other system
