Nikola Tesla was born on 10 July 1856 in Serbia. His father was a priest and his mother had the ability of making home tools; she was very intelligent. Tesla was the fourth of five children; he has an older brother and three sisters. He went to Austrian Polytechnic in Graz, Austria. When his family moved to Karlovac, he continues his education there. After that he went to Prag University, graduated in 1880. He was very clever and hard working student. He had never missed a lecture and earned the highest grades. The dean of technical faculty sends his father to a letter and states that “Your son is a star of first rank.” After his fathers death he found a package of letter sent from his professor to his father and he was saying that if he werent removed from the school, he would be died because of overwork; he was working from 3 am to 11 pm without holidays.

His career began in Budapest, he worked for a telegraph company; Budapest Telephone Exchange. After working for the other companies producing dynamos in Strazburg and Paris; he went to United States. He spent a few months in Europe with other scientists, he was trying to producing engines working with the principles of alternative current (AC). When he realizes that he couldnt be successful in Europe, he went to America. He wanted to meet with Edison he did by using Tesla was hired by Edison to work for his Edison Machine Works.

Teslas work for Edison began with simple electrical engineering and quickly progressed to solving some of the companys most difficult problems. Tesla was even offered the task of completely redesigning the Edison Companys direct current generators. Tesla claimed that he could redesign Edisons inefficient motor and generators, making an improvement in both service and economy. According to Tesla, Edison remarked, “Theres fifty thousand dollars in it for you–if you can do it. After months of work, Tesla fulfilled the task and inquired about payment. Edison, claiming that he was only joking, replied, “Tesla, you dont understand our American humor.” Instead, Edison offered a US$10 a week raise over Teslas US$18 per week salary; Tesla refused the offer and immediately resigned.
