Modernism is the overall art movement that started in the late 1800s and lasted to the mid-late 1900s. Artists of this time were primarily interested in how they presented their artistic ideas and issues rather than reproducing the world as it appears. Paul Cezanne is considered to be an important person at this time as he focused on planes and structure, as he painted a specific mountain over and over again to look at its physical structure and appearance.

Cezanne was influenced by impressionism, which originated in France in the 1860s, where paintings of casual subjects with color and brush strokes to capture the mood of the moment. With this new concept and his imagination, he was able to create a fresh genre of work that became popular after people wrapped their heads around it. He paved the way for other abstract movements, such as cubism, abstraction, conceptual art, and many others.

Artists that helped the modernism movement include Edouard Manet (played with perspective), Claude Monet (simplified forms), Edvard Munch (The Cry), and many others. Artists like these were exposed to many individuals because people went to Europe in the industrial revolution between the late 18th century and the mid 19th century. The created a flow of new ideas between many different people.

Technology also aided the creation of modernism. In previous times, art focused primarily on the happenings of that time: wealthy people, wars, and landscapes. In 1839 photography became known in the art world and first started with copper platingЖone could capture a moment of time exactly (or close to) the way it looked at that exact moment. After some time, photographs were used to market products (or even people).

Industries were able to take advantage of photographs by allowing their mass produced products to become globally known. Individuals could save money if they were to buy mass produced goods. Art is everywhereЖit
