Michael Jeffery Jordan is one of the most known and one of the best basketball players of all time! In his biography off of NBAs website says, “By acclamation, Michael Jordan is the greatest basketball player of all time.” Basketball was created by Dr. James Naismith, a physical education professor and instructor at the YMCA in Springfield, Massachusetts. He was trying to keep his gym class active on a rainy day and during Massachusetts long winters. Naismith wrote down basic rules to the game and he nailed a peach basket onto a ten foot elevated track. At first there was no dribbling involved, the only thing was to bounce pass it to your players. They also used an association football as the ball which is a soccer ball. A lot began to change though; peach baskets were used until 1906 when they were finally replaced by metal hoops with backboards, in the late 1950s they adopted the popular orange basketball into the game. Also passing the ball was the only means of movement when the game was first created but later it change and players were able to dribble the ball. A lot of rules and regulations change because of the game developing and becoming so popular.

Michael Jordan received many awards for his amazing talent and also for him being a great person. He also set many records while he played. Awards and records he received are the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Class in 2009, 2 Olympic Gold Medals in 1984 and 1992, 6-time NBA Champion, 6-time NBA Finals MVP, 5-time NBA MVP, 10 NBA Scoring Titles, 14 NBA All-Star Selections, 3-time NBA All-Star Game MVP, 11 All-NBA Selections, 9 All-Defensive First Team Selections, 2-time NBA Slam Dunk Contest Champion in1987 and 1988, NBA Rookie of the Year during 1984-1985, NBA Defensive Player of the Year during 1987-1988, , ACC Freshman of the Year during 1981-1982, 2-time Consensus NCAA All-American First Team in 1982-1983 and 1983-1984, ACC Mens Basketball Player of the Year during 1983-84, USBWA College Player of the Year during 1983-1984, Naismith College Player of the Year during 1983-1984, John R. Wooden Award during 1983-1984, Adolph Rupp Trophy during 1983-1984, Sports Illustrated Sportsman of the Year in 1991, Named one of the 50 Greatest Players in NBA History in 1996, Ranked No.1 by SLAM Magazines Top 50 Players of All-Time, Ranked No.1 by ESPN Sportscenturys Top 100 Athletes of the 20th century, and also he was Elected to North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame.

Michael Jordan contributed a lot to the sport. Jordans dynasties with the Chicago Bulls lead to them winning six championships in eight years and he established pro basketball in the city of Chicago. Before Michael, the Bulls were a normal team who had advanced past the first round of the payoffs only three times.
