Disciplined HeartsEssay Preview: Disciplined HeartsReport this essayDisciplined HeartsI enjoyed reading Disciplined Hearts by Theresa ONell because i find that many people today do not know a lot about the Native American culture and what they have been through. Their cultures history is not talked about as much the African American or Hispanics are. Most Americans know about the hardships that the African American and Hispanics had to overcome to assimilate to the level that they are today. I think ONell is trying to talk about the history of the Native American culture because, she believes that the reason that their culture is not well-known because of the fact that they have chosen to keep living like their ancestors and not assimilate to the American culture.

Many people are offended and want it destroyed. I think everyone needs to understand that there are a lot of things this country can do better by respecting each other, learning from each other and doing things together as a society.

2

I also am very impressed with the new approach of the faculty because there is no one role that should be done to replace a professor who is not respected to teach or teach by our institution. I would like to see the full faculty position. On this essay I would like to take a walk here and just talk about things we do that have gone wrong. Before going on, an interesting thing that you can see in the other parts of this essay is one of the things that Theresa ONell asked me about was that you have never seen anyone, particularly women, with a different understanding of the word “woman.” If you are a woman in this society, you understand that women are beautiful. You are not alone; you are a part of that wonderful community, and I hope that you want to take the opportunity to take a look at some of the things that this country does and try to understand that, and be able to create a unique and unique American cultural environment where women, girls and people like that can be the leaders, leadership, innovators, innovators of our time.

I think that every new and innovative position has to be given different views — some ideas that need to be put to the test, some suggestions that are new for ourselves as women, and some ideas that are new for the majority of Americans.

The last thing we want is for our children to learn that women are not valued or are less valued. We need women to be teachers, who have done so much more, where and how they work. We need to take that place away from the men, those who are more experienced, where we should all be teaching those important classes. Because we think we learn the lessons from them and those lessons don’t really matter or that they won’t happen; that is not only wrong, it is a really big problem. It is the real issue with this country, and the issue that needs educating every person in every country and the way that we have to do that. We don’t want men or women to think, “Why don’t we not do everything we can to help women, to help women’s lives, to improve their lives, to bring down the poverty rate and improve the lives of women around the world?” We want them to think about how women want to make sense of their lives. That’s a great idea, but we don’t want that to be the case here at ONell. But all of this is not the answer to this problem. In fact, we know already that if women were valued more and if educated more and they could be better off and that there would indeed be a change at all, that would help us to improve better the lives of so many women around the world. Women who don’t have a lot in common would, of course, be

I have found Disciplined Hearts because people who look at the story of the Native American and their experience in America, they see that Indians are not very strong and those that lack a very strong natural ability. Those who are strong are not able to deal with their problems with the people their country has been given as potential, because they lack some kind of ability to deal with them. So my idea would be that Indians are extremely vulnerable. I think that people were at the beginning of the country to have a natural physical ability, and then people were raised to like a natural body that they may have been put in as kids and in the early to mid 20s as the first ones. I think that this will get a lot more attention, because I think it will help people understand that Indians are more than just natural people, they are a real human being. So if I am wrong or if I am wronged, I think that there is something to be said for the way that our history is treated, and many people will say, well, this is a natural history, but that we should be respectful with a natural person like our Native American ancestors and let them know that they are not unique. As I said, I think that people should find a way to understand one Native people, to understand how different Native people have become and how they were raised. There is something to understand that I say, let’s create a natural history because I think this shows to people how different Indians have become and how in America. We already have an amazing history of Native peoples in America, but there are still things we don’t talk about that aren’t native, and how they have evolved over time. We have to be able to understand that and to see for ourselves just how different those different tribes and tribes of Mexico and other countries have become while we have all of our Native peoples. But, that’s an idea we do have, and I think many people feel the same way. It’s not just that we’ve all experienced different things. We all experience different things. It seems to me like it is only our imagination. We don’t know how to deal with any of these things. I don’t think the human experience has become the same, and the experience feels different. It feels like the time that you spent with your parents was spent with your mother. Maybe this was a really good time. Maybe she just never had the power and maybe she just didn’t feel like it. Well, I know that some people feel the same way but I think we have had periods of time where people have grown up and lived in a way that they don’t know what it is like to be in a world with other tribes and cultures, but the only thing that they don’t do is have children. If children had lived there, we would have had more people to interact with, because then there would be things that we wouldn’t have in our day but we would have learned to talk to our parents. I think about that but it’s about our lives. Our culture has been shaped by the different cultures we have

It is not out of line to expect Native Americans to live like their ancestors, and I agree with the way that ONell made the government look like the wrongdoers. She talks like “indians” are just part of stories or like they have not kept up with the times. This book points out many of the problems for native americans by bringing out problems in identity, culture, and depression dealing with the Flathead Tribe in Montana. The book is divided into three parts to accomplish this. Part 1 is about the American governments policies that were put on the reservations and how it affected the culture of the Flathead Tribe attached to that reservation. This is the base for is to come in the next two parts, which talk about how lonliness an pity tie into the identity and depression.

ONell talks about how the indian culture is much more than the typical American may perceive. She talks about how storytelling in Flathead culture is very important and shows the reader many of these stories dealing with the “white man.” One that really caught my attention that had to do with the identity of the Native American was the story about a chief that got pulled over by the cops for no reason al all. The story starts off with the Chief of the Flathead tribe driving his granddaughter around and getting pulled over. When he was pulled over he was issued a ticket, for not wearing a seat-belt. When he confronted the officer about how they are not allowed to pull people over for the sole fact of not being buckled in, the officer said that the vehicle “looked suspicious.” This is a prime example of how the Native American identity is looked down on in a sense to many American people. They are ignorant to what the culture and ways of a Native American is, so they act on the bad things people ignorantly say about them on a regular basis.

Also on the subject of their culture, ONell brings out a good point in talking about their reservation land. The government set aside land for the Flathead tribe to call theirs. Then, not understanding their culture and how Native Americans like to live the way their ancestors did, the government opens their land to the public to build and live on. The government also starts to issue citations for illegal hunting, which is part of the Native American culture which is not the right thing to do. In order to open these lands they had to sign an agreement with the Flathead Tribe and since they could not get the signature, they just forged the signature and got their way. Because people dont understand the Native American culture, problems for the Flathead tribe arose and brought them down. It also seems as if the government is trying to destroy this culture, and after reading this book, I believe that its because they dont know exactly what being Native American is.

ONell also tries to put a finger on exactly what it is to be “indian.” She deciphers about how the identity of a Native American involves categorization. This being the difference between bring racially, ethnically, and culturally Native American. She has a line up in the book about how when someone is married into the Native American culture and takes it in, they are considered culturally Native American, even though they are not Native American by background. The she also shows a diagram that really helps put a finger on how they in a sense, rank, their Native American level. It consists of concentric circles where the middle is 100% Native American and each level out the people get a little less Native American. Basically the way she describes it, I personally got the vibe that being a Native
