Romanian wine is positioned in 3rd position in the export of agricultural products.
A national strategy has been elaborated in order to stimulate the export of Romanian wine. The document, finalized at the end of June 2005 was drafted by the Department of Foreign Affairs within the Ministry of Economy and Commerce in cooperation with the National Vineyard and Wine Producers Association, the Ministry of Agriculture and representatives of the academic society and shall be approved by the Export Council before to be issued by the Romanian Government.

For those who know its long winemaking tradition, its excellent land and climate, it is not surprising that in 2000 and particularly in 2001, a number of Romanian wineries produced vintages of international quality. Nowadays Romania is number 9 producing country in Europe. The wine is in the top of the exported Romanian products (3rd position in the group of agricultural products), bringing only last year 26,24 million dollars, which means 3,2 million dollars more than in 2002.

The export strategy includes the vision and the objectives as well as the stages and the necessary resources for a proper implementation. The change of the image represents a process divided in steps which are subject of the export strategy for the next 4 coming years. The methodology used for the elaboration of the national strategy represents the most actual instrument of this kind on a mondial level, being provided by the International Trade Center Geneva. APEV Romania, the Wine Exporters and Producers Association of Romania, is the generic promotional body for all “Wines of Romania” and for Romania as a top enotourism destination in Europe.
