1.0 INTRODUCTION
NACCO Materials Handling Group was founded in 1913 as the Cleveland and Western Coal Corporation, this was later re-named to North American Coal Corporation in 1925. NACCO Materials Handling Group was formed from the merging of Yale and Hyster, which resulted in the company becoming world leaders in the design and manufacturing of forklift trucks.

Yale formerly known as Yale & Towne Manufacturing in 1875 had progressed from Yale lock designs first sketched in 1844 to become leading producers of hand-powered and electric-drive hoists, this later expanded into battery and electric powered forklift truck production in 1920.

In Americas Pacific Northwest in Portland, Oregon, Hyster a logging company were producing winches and lifting machines in 1929. The products produced by NACCO Materials Handling Group today are marketed under the Yale and Hyster brand names. Below is a summarised chart of NACCO Industries Inc. worldwide structure.
