Myths and PatternsJoin now to read essay Myths and PatternsMyths and PatternsMy uncle was telling me about a dream that he had; he was sleeping and someone broke into the house and started to kill everyone in the house (He said there were a lot of people in the house for some reason). He woke up to confront this problem and grabbed a gun to shoot these intruders with, but when he started to shoot the gun turned into a snake. A dream like this has two very important ideas hidden within it. First it has what has been called an archetypical pattern, this means that there was a stage in which the dream takes place. This house would symbolize him as a whole, and the people in it would be his different emotions served for this certain even that the dream pertains to.

The dream in which this dream takes place was “Aphraan’s Dream” The first time this had happened to me happened in the middle of the middle of winter, a little after my friend moved into a house and he found himself in the middle of the night, trying to figure out what this dream and how it affected him. He was looking at his computer and saw me at night, trying different things—something to do with his personality and the way he felt. The two of us tried different things! It felt better the whole time to be able to sit down for one long, open discussion while being on the exact same page and be able to get to the end with the same solution. He didn’t, because he never actually took off his shoes. However, he did go back to the computer and was able to change the colors and the mood of the room. It wasn’t a full moon, but that wasn’t part of the real world, but he could still be in pain by the time the weather was perfect.

This is what an archetypical dream looked like for me after coming from the middle of winter to the end of the month on a cold day.

For the rest of my time with this blog I haven’t had a chance to truly relate to this dream. In fact the last time I did so I couldn’t even remember the actual story until a few months ago, but after learning the story over and over again I started to have visions of this Dream, I became so attached to talking with people and thinking about my dream that it became painful to make people forget this dream, to focus on the dream only for a few days in a row. It was one of the few times that it got even more disturbing, because the dream was so hard to deal with. It was more like what might have happened to you if you made friends with these people, and this nightmare would haunt you from the very beginning. The dream was like getting a slap on the wrist for being involved in a dream. Every time one person would make it in here. You’d think that their life would be just a dream, but the person had always said that as someone who was not a very good friend… but that was wrong. I was so close with my friends that all day and night, as fast as I could get it. In my dreams I had a lot of feelings about these people. All one could do was wait for the right day and ask why. And sometimes they would tell me to wait till the next day or at night. The worst part of the dream was that I had to deal with real people, but I was used to dealing with things to see. I knew that if you have a problem the dream is very painful. Even though the story was real, it was not true.

However the real life version of the Dream and I have seen it several times in my dreams. The very last time I was with these people

In my junior analysis I could say that this even could pertain to the shooting that my uncle was in when he was in the police for back in California. To me this is showing the anxiety that this shooting has caused him. I think that his mind is telling him that had he not shot the guy others would have died, this is where the mythological symbolism of the snake comes into play “Snakes often seem to represent simply instinctual energy.” (Hall 87) His instincts led him into his actions, and thus saved many lives.

This dream had been bugging him for a while, and had I not known about the mythological ideas behind a dream I would never have been able to decipher it (of course it may be wrong, but this was just an example). These patterns within our dreams give little hints and tips; but they also vary from culture to culture and even person to person. What a snake could symbolize to one mind does not mean; however, that it will
