Many highly renowned and popular books have been made into movies over the years. These movies may be extremely different from the book or it can be highly similar. Either way, movie adaptations of different books have both their similarities and differences. For example, many of the Harry Potter books have been made into movies, some scenes that you may find in the book may not show up in the movie. Due to time constraints and impossibilities, some scenes may have to be altered to fit the movies needs and some scenes may have to be taken out all together. The book 1984 by George Orwell has many similarities and differences with its movie adaptation.

There were many similarities between the book 1984 and its movie adaptation. The story and plot line were very similar. Both the book and the movie focused around the story of a utopian society controlled by big brother and the hope for revolution and revolt. Furthermore both the movie and the book featured the protagonist Winston Smith and his love interest Julia. Many of the same rhymes and songs used in the book were also featured in the movie such as oranges and lemons from St. Clementine rhyme. Also a war is taking place in the movie just like in the book and there are still events such as the two minutes hate in the book and the movie. The main character, Winston Smith, in both the book and the movie undergoes a mental conflict in his indecision about Big Brother. The movie and the book both portray his negative thoughts over Big Brother and his internal conflict with himself over the idea of a rebellion. Also both the book and the movie feature the though police and different buildings important to the books setting such as the ministry of truth and the records department. Just like in the book, inner and outer part members refer to one another as comrades in the movie. Overall, there were many similarities between the movie adaptation and the book.

Even though the movie adaptation and the book had many similarities there were also several differences as well. In the movie the different character are wearing specific clothing and uniforms and in the book different uniforms or their form of dress was not specified. Also the book 1984 gave a lot more background information pertaining to the society and its history towards the beginning of the novel; however the movie did not do this. Furthermore the movie also conveys less emotional connection to the characters. For example while you are reading the book you can actually imagine what Winston is feeling like the movie fails to portray these feelings. Also the movie shows more about the government and how they deal with the rations given to the citizens, while the book did not. Also in the book the children are a lot more violent and rebellious then they are shown to be in the movie. For example in the book when Winston went to go fix the Parsons sink their children were a lot more violent towards him then they were
