CampaignThe player assumes the role of various characters during the single-player campaign, changing perspectives throughout the progression of the story. Each level is a mission that features a series of objectives that are displayed on the heads up display, which marks the direction and distance towards and from such objectives. Damage to the player is shown by blood shown on the screen. The players health regenerates as time passes. Tasks vary in their requirements, having the player arrive at a particular checkpoint, eliminate enemies in a specified location, stand their ground to defend an objective, or plant explosive charges on an enemy installation. The player will be accompanied by troops who cannot be issued orders.
CooperativeInfinity Ward revealed that Modern Warfare 3 will feature a new Survival Mode. Survival Mode features one to two players fighting endless waves of enemies with each wave getting more difficult. Despite being much compared to the World at War Nazi Zombies mode, enemies do not spawn at fixed locations like the zombies did, but instead at tactical positions based on the current location of the player. The mode will be available on all multiplayer maps in the game and in the mode, players can earn “cash” for items such as weapons, upgrades and ammo.
MultiplayerInfinity Ward has recently revealed that it has revamped the entire killstreak reward system. They have stated that while Treyarch had slightly improved the system, it was not enough to make the system feel perfect. Along with revamping the entire killstreak reward system, Infinity Ward will also be revamping the entire ranking and unlocks system. Unlike previous games in the series, Modern Warfare 3 will not use a currency system.Infinity Ward has also revealed that they are removing annoyances that make players rely less on skill and more on perks. To do this, they are removing certain perks that give players a power advantage over others who do not possess the same perk. Quick-scoping has also returned, having been absent in Black Ops. Unlike Black Ops, Modern Warfare 3 will not feature dive to prone or “dolphin dive” due to various balancing issues.
New to Modern Warfare 3, these changes will come as a huge surprise. After having previously made a conscious decision not to play Modern Warfare 3 on PS4, it appears Treyarch’s efforts to make Modern Warfare 3 work was to make it work on the Xbox One. However, as Modern Warfare 3 will now also be available on Xbox One in general, the number of versions available to Xbox Live users will be limited. It seems those are only limited versions of Modern Warfare 3, so if those other three add-ons have been expanded upon, it could mean that Modern Warfare 3 on PS4 also will have a PS4 exclusive.
It is unclear at this time where the changes are going, but it sounds like Treyarch is aware of the new rules of modern Warfare 3, as opposed to some other games, the new rules have been changed before Modern Warfare 3. However, the only rule changes, which are for Modern Warfare 3 on Xbox One, is that players will no longer have to spend money to win or obtain gear. Modern Warfare 3 will be free, however, and will be made available on PS4 across all platforms.
It hasn’t been revealed yet what new modes the Modern Warfare 3 multiplayer will feature, but it has been mentioned that Infinity Ward, as well as the new rules will be implemented in an interesting way. For one thing, if a player completes the multiplayer, the only remaining objective in the game will still be going to a co-op event, making the game completely different from other multiplayer games. In terms of co-op, players only see one other person of interest in an event. Additionally, if a player chooses to run in multiplayer, it still requires the player to win a co-op event after five rounds (which it does not, however). This is something Infinity Ward is also very likely keen on.
As for multiplayer, there does not seem to be any major restriction on how much a player can see from their character if he spends money. Players will view characters from various eras of the game. It seems they can play it as much as they like, or less, though, though it is unknown if this will be something they will be able to do or what the exact limits will be.
Lastly, it appears that Modern Warfare 3 will release on June 20. That is a date where Modern Warfare 3 will be sold exclusively on various platforms. If such a release is indeed scheduled for this year or next, there is still the possibility that a second Modern Warfare 3 is forthcoming.
